The Match-Up

The first match of this year's Showdown may have started off rather slow and lop-sided, but it definitely did not end that way. World of WarCraft took a commanding early lead in both review scores and forum voting, but Age of Conan started staging a major comeback a few days into the week. Initial reviews and posts about a bad launch, bugs, lack of content after level 20, and lack of gameplay were combated by current AoC players with posts about a more mature community and better combat. The AoC comeback was so great that it took control of the forum voting and never let go for the rest of the week. Review scores were also strong enough for AoC to take over the lead with just three hours of voting left. However, World of WarCraft managed to eek out a win in those final hours of voting by staying out of a tie. World of WarCraft now moves on to the second round.

Comment: AoC has blown it's chance. Nuff said.

But since I want to rattle on;

The game is not for a younger audience, as most raids are far to complex for most ten year olds.

The game dominates the MMORPG market for a good reason; it's the best in the genre by far.

The game has the depth and simplicity that make it an excellent choice for casual and hardcore gamers alike.

To compare it to AoC;

A lot of people say it's a more mature game, but considering violence is one of the most immature things you can possibly do, how is that statement true?

Comment: World of Warcraft is a far better MMORPG than Age of Conan? Why? Because Blizzard have really done soooo well with WoW. They've created this huge world filled with things to do, and they are leading in the MMORPG industry. At least, according to stats anyway. The only complaint I have about World of Warcraft is that it is really expensive, but I'm just grasping at straws right now, World of Warcraft is a great MMORPG, and it is certainly better than Age of Conan at least.

Comment: Tried WOW before. Gave it a week but it just sucked. Crappy animation and simplistic gameplay. Tried Conan and just can't stop playing! Conan keeps getting better and better. Top of the line animation and interesting quests. I can't wait for the expansion!

Comment: I have played since preorder and I understand the frustration of the people who quit after the first month or two because of the bugs. AOC devs have completely revamped the game now and it is amazing. There is even more content coming out tomorrow. We are getting veteran points, another dungeon, a seasonal event, and more. I would recommend giving this game another try if you are one of the people that quit early. My guild is primarily made up of people that have returned and are now hooked.
I noticed a lot of people saying that the first 20 levels were great and then the game fell apart. I think just the opposite. The first 20 are kind of a drag and then the world opens up once you leave Tortage.
If you are tired of 10 year olds flying around on cartoon dwarves and spammin global, come give AOC a try. The graphics are amazing, the content is rapidly expanding, and the maturity level is...well...a step above most.

Comment: I wanted AoC to be great! I was tired of WoW at the time that it came out and I wanted something different.

Level 20? I never had more fun getting to level 5. I did it with several alts trying different combinations. However, I only got to lev 20 with one character before finally quiting a week or so later. After lev 20 everything felt stale and boring. The story was meaningless and everything lacked direction.

What could have been if AoC was a full game!

Comment: To those that keep saying AOC sucks after the first twenty levels, when was the last to you played, if ever? Those problems that stemmed all the bad reviews are long gone.

Comment: AoC is the best looking game out there, no contest. WoW is geared to 10 year olds, AoC is for mature players that appreciate fantastic graphics and gameplay that requires skill and not just button mashing. To be fair, why don't you post a real screenshot from AoC?
