This is the seventh match of MMORPG Showdown 4
The Match-Up
RuneScape vs. Free Realms provided plenty of fireworks throughout the week. Not only are these two games two of the most popular free MMORPGs today, but either game could have been in the finals of this tournament. In fact, RuneScape is the defending champion from last year.
The match itself was back-and-forth for most of the week. RuneScape started dominating the forum vote in the middle of the week but the review vote stayed tight the whole week. In the end, RuneScape managed to pull through with the hard fought victory to successfully defend its championship. Without question, Free Realms will be a part of next year's tournament.

Comment: For me Runescape is great.
Some Reasons here:
1. Much Content, keep Adding
2. Great Quest / Storylines
3. I can do nothing at all, if i like, love just talking to my friends.
4. Funny Minigames / Skill to train / Pvp / Easy - Hard Boss Monster to kill with Friends.
5. All up to your Choice.
6. Not just about fighting.
One thing i need to say, dont judge a game on grafics.
But actually the grafics is pretty good for a game that runs on Java

Comment: Not much to say back in the day when this was in beta and just out even with its bugs it went though after beta was fun, but comming back to this is way to overwealming, nothing wrong with quests but its like other than the some you get as a free member membership slaps you with way to many quests to do ( not that its a bad thing )and if you are just trying to get the skills to start using them with membership you will need a guide to lead you to find the quests to get them. While this game dose offer quite a bit to do, controls on this game are something you will have to get used to, minning used to be great but now not as good as it used to be, sorry the fighting is boreing random numbers from using yoru current skills vs your opponents. Alot of the mini games though seem to be more pvp games, free to play users havent gotten much outta the updates since back when, other than runecrafting and one quest for it and maybe a few mini games, still stuck in the same area as before, still stuck with just about the same kind of gear from since just comming outta beta ( runeplate is the best you can get after quest for free players. )
This just note is a personal opion only while its a good game for quite a lot of people, trying to rego back to this game made me just not even bother to stay, after being gone for years after playing somewhat over a year worth of this game.

Comment: RuneScape is a unique MMORPG as it's only one of the few that get away from the go here kill x amount of this and come back formula that everyone seems stuck on. RuneScape has tons of quest and they are all unique and cool. No other MMO has matched the level of verity found in RuneScape's quests. RuneScape also has tons of skills while these are pretty repetitive the amount of them assures if you get bored of one you can do another.
Overall RuneScape has stood the test of time still going strong after all these years and is a game everyone should play at least once.

Comment: Runescape. When I think of Runescape, I think, that YES, it is very impressive managing to fit such a game into java in a web browser, BUT, it is BORING. I will explain. This game has not many quests, but you will want to do the quests ONLY, then quit the game. This is because the game has fun quests, some that even have you solving puzzles, but the rest of the game is a grindfest. You have LOADS of skills you can practice in, but the more funner ones are restricted to members, and the ones available to free players are just generic, click on this tree/pond/rock and endlessly train the skill, or EVEN, do that, then WALK ALL THE WAY to another AREA (wow! fun!) and click on an anvil/fire and train ANOTHER skill endlessly. That's it for free players. For members, you have skills like Construction, and Hunting that seem fun from the description. But since training skills takes FOREVER, you're basically repeating one thing over and over for a long time until you can unlock the next thing you can do, then you repeat THAT over and over until you unlock the next thing. Am I getting through to anyone?
To summarize, Runescape is a nice achievement, managing to fit a game with such graphics and a fairly large world into java on a web browser. BUT, it's a boring game itself, except for the quests. That's all I have to say about this game. I will rate it average.

Comment: Runescape has a huge number a quests that take awhile to complete, from skilling with friends to completing minigames against rivals Runescape's graphics show you around a mythical world created by a generous (if a very secretive for surprises staff) that has updates practily every week. Once all the quests are finish there are achievement diaries to do, and boss monsters and a large number of minigames, which are each unique and fun.

Comment: Free Realms is very low resource, like Runescape. HOWEVER, it's waaaaay better than Runescape. Why? Because Runescape is just endless grinding in everything except for the quests, and there are few quests in the game anyway. Free Realms offers multiple job choices, many of which don't even require combat, it offers MORE and FUN quests. I played one of this game's combat quests, it was a sort of clear this cave of monsters, then kill the boss. And it was FUN, I don't know why, maybe because I felt really cool sneaking around killing enemies one by one (I was playing Ninja). AND, I didn't even play the game's non-combat classes, which I bet will be the game's strong point. Also, this game has been catered to smaller audiences as well, and this can be seen in the game's auto-travel system, the fact that combat isn't necessary and the very colorful graphics which are even reminiscent of World of Warcraft.

Comment: Hmm Free Realms, I dont know about it.

Comment: Quick overview of why I rate it a 9/10.
Fun to play and can stay fun
Kart driving, puzzle mining and blacksmithing, pet trainer and pets with tricks, in game card game, exploreing, game is very easy going, chess and checkers as well as types of def games, easy to get used to, soccer, fun items and alot more and even more to expect to come.
The bad
Still has bugs being worked out ( only been out less than a year ), chat filter way to harsh, fighting classes are not very balanced
Biggest of all alot of room for expansion and more fun stuff in tons of possiblities of ways.

Comment: Nothing Special sorry...
Free Realms have millions of players that subscribe, that dont have so many that play activ.
That game is from Sony, so no surprise about many subscribers, they advertise much more then runescape, Runescape never or rarely had any advertisement, they only had the player that advertise for them.
Runescape for me.

Comment: Free Realms is neat, it has some cool features, looks great and has a lot of things to do but it has one big weakness in that it doesn't handle non paying customers vary well... you contently run into you can't do this unless you upgrade, upgrading with make this easier, please upgrade... etc... it gets annoying. The game is still fun to play but it's lacking if you don't pay.

Comment: The game is pretty average for my taste's, I didn't really find the community all that endearing, while the graphics are cartoony it ran fine on my computer although I found the quests a bit boring.

RS FTW!
Besides, it has many more years of development - JaGeX probably has more basis in PVP and PVM systems. I guess one can argue that the battles are dull in RuneScape, but you have to admit - with what the new RuneTek5, the new weapons, and Java Technology, RuneScape can become anything in the future ;DPosted 12-14-2009 at 06:08 AM by str pwned147
