Rakion Review

Rakion, a 3-D,real-time, free-to-play, fantasy combat, room based online game has always had its place as one of my favorite F2P MMOs. Rakion, developed by Softnyx, offers a unique type of third-person-shooter experience you can find no where else.
Rakion is a room based MMOg. Players join rooms, battle in 6 different types of PVP matches, or even join fellow players in Stages (Co-Op). Different types of game modes offer various levels of EXP and gold (in-game currency), players gain stat points to add on to the stats of their choice for each level they gain. The 5 Types of PVP game modes include:
Stage Mode is a Co-op mode where 1-4 players (varies on stage), teamwork in order to complete certain maps. gameplay stage mode is pretty linear but still very entertaining. Upon completion of a stage, the team will be rewarded with gold and exp (varies on stage), and also ranked by letters [BEST(S,A,B,C,D)WORST] Once a player has completed a stage with a S rating, he/she can no longer be rewarded for that stage. Stages game-mode offers a alternative to the PVP atmosphere, It can be frustrating yet very rewarding, completing very hard stages can lead to unreal amounts of EXP and rare items.
The Class system consists of 5 classes :warrior, blacksmith, archer, ninja and magician. Players must select a class upon character creation. Each class has been carefully balanced, classes have been well integrated into the team-battle, each character has its role in a team battle. All classes can change between melee and range attacks during battle; classes such as archer and magician will have its attacks focused on range and the others focused on melee. Each class has its own variety of skills (dash attack, dash attack 2, Charge attack, etc) and also each has 2 Special attacks known as GRIP. GRIPs can be performed from the front of the target or from the back, the direction determines the type of GRIP. Since GRIP is such a powerful attack the cast time is very slow, the GRIP user must also in contact with the target (so close they're touching), GRIP attacks can dish out massive damage and create devastating effects to the target (freeze them in place for 5 seconds) but once the GRIP attack is finished, leaves the user vulnerable. A Failed GRIP attack will leave the player vulnerable for an extremely long time (1-2 seconds). Rakion also offers a CHAOS mode for each class. CHAOS mode is a temporary enhancement that transforms your character and makes it ridiculously powerful. To use chaos mode the player must accumulate a certain number of kills down the match.
Rakion also has 'cell'. 'cells' are summonable creatures that aid the user in battle. there is a summon limit of 3 units of creatures , players must accumulate a certain amount of cell Pts in battle before they can summon anything. Cell creatures are also level-restricted.
Besides the great game play Rakion offers decent graphics. The music is mediocre at best. Not much to mention besides that.
Now for the flaws: players often suffer from severe lag, rooms also suffer from hackers at times, Players get auto booted if their Ping is too high.
The Verdict: With the exponential growth of the free MMO industry, Rakion is rather an old game. Old but very entertaining. Try it out, the gameplay is definitely one of a kind.
Final Score: 8.5/10

Quote:
Death Match (Solo):A Solo Deathmatch is a free-for-all variation of team deathmatch. All players are on their own and the first player to achieve a specified amount of kills is declared the winner.
Deathmatch (Teamplay): These are similar to Solo Deathmatches, except that the players are separated into teams.
Golem War: Players are assigned to a team in this mode. Each team has a Master Golem. Located somewhere in the map is the Golden Golem. The objective is to destroy the opponent's Master Golem, but only the person that kills the Gold Golem can do significant damage to the other team's Master Golem. To prevent teams "stealing" the Gold Golem from each other, it has separate health for each team. Unlike the other PvP modes, slain players do not respawn, and a team can also lose when all their players have been defeated. If the time runs out and both Master Golems are still alive, the team with the Golem with more health wins the round.
Boss War: This is a team-based headhunter fight. Each team has a player who's the "boss" that they must protect at all costs; if the boss dies then the team loses the game.
Basic Mode: A setting which can be assigned to any non-stage game. All players' stats are as if they were level 1 for the duration of the game. No cells can be summoned in this mode aside from the lowest level cell, the Nak. Stats from equipment still applies.
