Is there any free program we could use to make a mmorpg as a community? That would be awesome:D.

    MMO Development

I may as well let you guys know about what we have to offer.
(Note: this isn't strictly advertising, as we don't make any money from it)

I'm the Director of Communicatons for Multiverse Foundation, which is a non-profit organization that is currently upgrading and maintainig the Multiverse MMO Development Platform, which is open source, and completely free to use, unlike platforms like RealmCrafter, or even Torque3D.

Originally, the platform was closed-source, and you had to pay 10% of your revenues to Multiverse Inc. (the developers of the platform) if you made money from it.
However, the company went bust a few years ago due to the recession, and they released the source code to the community, under the MIT license.
(Note: For those interested in the licensing side of things, the MIT license is included in all parts of the source code)
The Multiverse Foundation is now maintaining the source code, making necessary upgrades and so on. I'm currently working to stir developer interest, hence the reason for this post.
You can download the source code, and there are a set of tools, such as a World Editor, Terrain Generator, and models can be imported as long as they are in the Collada .DAE format. The platform is written in C#, but the actual game development side of programming is done in Python and Java.
The source code also includes starter assets, with characters, monsters, buildings, weapons and trees, and you can do what you want with them.

Getting started is very easy, and you can actually have a functional MMO up and running in only a few hours, even for non-programmers like myself! It's then a matter of adding your own assets, programming additional plugins and functionalities, which is all available in the documentation.
As I said before, this is completely free, and you can do whatever you want with your MMO, and charge what you want. All we do is give support and update various aspects of the code, for your benefit.

I would recommend checking our website for more detailed information, as I'm beginning to ramble on now!
I can't post any links yet, as I don't have 5 posts, but search for 'Multiverse MMO Development Platform' on Google, and it's the second link (at the time or writing).

If you have any questions, feel free to sign up to our forums, send me a PM here, or log in to our site-wide chat-room, where I or other developers are to help you out.
You can also add me on skype, if you like: tristanojbacon.

    Thanks

    Tristan
    Director of Communications

^ you forgot to mention that MIT license is only valid, if a copy of the MIT license is added to the package, else it ain't a valid license

you also forgot to mention that a MIT license retains it proprietary rights, meaning if you add upon it, it also falls under the license

That is in fact explained on the Open Source section of the website.

But I'll add it to the post, for anyone else who is interested :)
