Granted, right now, most of our PVE content may not be as exciting as compared to when playing against a player. However, if done well, bosses and other mobs can be quite challenging too. We have seen it in many console RPGs and we are seeing some new MMORPGs giving challenging boss fights and not just extra HP to prolong it. Given the rise of Action MMORPGs right now, I believe that challenging and exciting PVE will be greeting us pretty soon.

Also, if a heated battle against players is what certain players want, other genres can better provide that. MMOFPS and MMOTPS will not require you to grind since you can just immediately play against players. MMORTS also lets you battle out your wits against other players. These genres can better satisfy the competitive nature of these people. MMORPGs are still more on the PVE aspect. The PVP aspect was added so that some players who are into PVP, will also be enticed to try the genre, thus, increasing the market pie.

IMO, the monsters/bosses programmed for PVE will never have the artificial intelligence to match a human, but they can be pretty darn close sometimes to KOing you faster than a player can if you aren't prepared properly. The more actions one boss is given, potentially, the more difficult it shall become. In PVP, you may be limited. (In RuneScape for example) if you choose to kill another player for their armour and risk your own, you only want to risk what you can lose. In some MMOs though, you don't lose your armour/food/weapons you just lose some money or you get some small penalty.

I usually side with PVE because it helps the economy out for the game that you are playing and it doesn't have the human variable, which honestly, i like. Because if you can predict the monster's reactions in the end you can either gain more experience, more wealth, or a certain drop you have been waiting for to complete a quest/set of items.

I am not participating in the debate but this was just my 2 cents on the topicc :)

Think Quinn mentioned some type of computer problem when he was last on.

That's only probably because Quinn is taking a long time to respond. Hopefully we get another chance for a fairer match.

Anyway, we can probably start another debate as soon as this ends? Other people may want to try it.

I did have an Internet issue before that last post of mine, and just had some tests and huge homework assignments this week as we near winter break, but I should be good now! Congrats on your win, though! I'm sure you will do well :p

While bosses may interesting, they are still scripted to do certain actions, and are also usually pretty predictable. It is far more easy to give control to the players and let them do interesting things than to make a good AI. Replicating the human mind with a computer is a very difficult, if not impossible (currently) task.

Sure, having both versions of PvP and PvE are a good comprimise, but isn't really relevant to this ;)

Is the debate going to continue or should we just end it now?
