And next time I do a debate (IF I do another debate), I want no one else to join in. *sulks*

survival of the fittest implies there is scarcity of players, which in turn implies there are too many games to cater to the needs of all the players

and yes next time i'll stay out of it sorry ;)

Don't be sorry. Open debates are good too!

Anyway, I say that there are not enough MMOs until a free MMO knocks down WoW.

Although this was not planned, I think it has worked out nicely. We may start having more of these issue debates where anybody can support one side or the other:).

This debate will be decided when one side gets 10 votes.

The way that I see it there are two legitimate sides to this argument. There are not too many MMOs because as an internet-based culture, MMO players expect a niche market where they can find games that are practically made for their own personal use.

This niche market thought makes the MMO Industry face the unique challenge of memberships being stretched too thin. With the major retail MMOs (WOW, Aion, Ryzom, etc.) holding the majority of memberships in the MMO Industry the free to play MMOs are left to fight using the tools of genre, storyline, customizability, etc. to their advantage in order to wrangle the remaining MMO gamers. The problem is the variety of attributes available and the wide variety of tastes held by MMO gamers. The strength of the community essentially determines the success and ensures the security of the game in the market. But with the wide variety of tastes needing to be satisfied and the wide variety of games hoping to suit those needs the memberships are getting stretched thinner and thinner. I am curious as to how this particular situation will pan out.

Well, the big MMOs are doing fine, they've got millions of subscribers each...

Well, if people keep making alot of the same thing and don't try too hard to make something more unique or with variety, then yes. Might as well mean there's too many MMORPGs.

Agree with joker. Too many wow clones and well, a couple of pretty crappy games designed just to go with the trend of mmorpgs, but also good to really see the which games shine the most.
