I know a few MMOFPS games and loads of MMORPGs but what the hell is a MMORTS and what are some the top games?

there arnt very many MMORTSs out there unless you consider a RTS with online play one. You might be able to find a browser game of some type mabye.

You are right not many. I just know a few like Beyond Protocol, Boundless Planet, and Time of defiance.
