Default Total Annihilation Online!

Im playing the new remake of total annihilation, well its not that new but its still new enough :P. I dont understand though, not that many people seem to know about it. BUT IT COMPLETELY FREE!

The engine that it uses is called "Spring". You can download many mods for it, in my opinion XTA (9.45 latest version) is the best as it is almost exactly the same as the old TA game but with updated 3d graphics.

you can download the client and the mods here.

The Spring Project

it can be abit tricky to understand the client at first, u need to make a username before it will log you in, but you do all that in the client options.
Give it a go!

Default What more do you want to know!?

Just click on the link and play it! if the link doesnt work just search for Total Annihilation Spring on google. There are vids aswell, on You tube.

Its all 3d, theres loads of mods, most revolving around TA. u can have huge amounts of units, i think its 1000 (unit limit of 1000 per play)

what do you want to know?

More details about the game so its not just a "link and run" thread. How long has it been around?

ok, well heres what it says on the website :

About Spring
Spring is an open source project. This means everyone with programming knowledge can contribute in the project. It also means this is made in free time.

Current Features
  • Large battles limited only by the power of your computer; support for up to 5000 units.
  • Large, highly detailed maps in which to wage those battles, fully 3D with deformable terrain, forest fires, dynamic and reflective water, and custom skyboxes.
  • Several camera modes, allowing for anything to be viewed from almost any angle.
  • Fully 3D combat in land, sea, and air, with realistic weapon trajectories.
  • Many different mods, some of them originally from Total Annihilation, and some made just for Spring.
  • Compatible with unit files from Total Annihilation, allowing 3rd party units to easily be moved into Spring.
  • Complex 3rd party AIs, some of which are quite good.
  • An extremely powerful GUI, designed to minimise unneccesary micromanagement.
  • Frequent additions and bugfixes.

and heres a screenshot i borrowed from the site

I tried Spring a few months ago, but really got confused between all the mods. I tried one which was looking like very much a FPS. I was inside one of the tanks! (and surrounded by enemies)

Default Wait Wait!

let me jut clear a few things up, and make it all alot simpler! Below are all the links u need to get started, when you use the links, u'll see the page come up and on the right hand side a link will apear saying Jobjol.nl just below the word "ratings", u need to click that to begin the download. This website holds all the files u'll ever need for Spring.

Step 1 get the client from the spring official site or from Spring v0.76b1 for Windows
for other platforms other than windows go here
SubMap9

Install the client!

Step 2 get a mod from Spring files: here is a link to the XTA mod, you can use this site to find all the files u require for spring by using the search or index options:
Xta 9.45

Step 3
Put the mod into your Mods folder in the spring directory, if u havent already saved it there.

Step 4
Start spring (TASclient), log in (or register in the options), click on host and select the mod you wish to use, ie XTA 9.45, if its not there use the button below (refresh mod list) and then it should appear. The screen that follows is fairly self explanitary and u should be able to get it going.

Step 5
If you would like to play against bots u will need to download a bot, here is one compatible with XTA 9.45, you will need to put it in Spring/AI/Bot-libs folder. Then u select from the list of bots, the bots that come with the client are not compatible with so mod so make sure you choose RAI from the list of bots.
RAI v0.553

If anyone cant get it working, just post it on here and i'll go over it again and answer anyones questions. I know it seems complicated but its worth it... the game is great!
And please let me know if have managed to get it working, just to make sure my instructions are ok!
