Interesting
I find it odd that Age of Conan, a game that has been generaly panned for its lack of content, managed to tie with Lord of the Rings: Online, a game that has received very little criticism (from what i have researched) outside of its' blatent similarieties to World of Warcraft.
When you think about it though, they are very hard games to compare, especialy when using the term "best".
LOTRO is essentaily a copy of WoW. I have played it for a couple months, and while there may be some differences, the core mechanics of the game don't attempt to strive very far from home. This has caused it to gain a sturdy fan base, containing burned out WoW players, players attempting to avoid blizzard's giant, fans of the LOTR universe, and many others.
AoC, on the other hand, attempts to take a complete opposite direction. AoC attempted to create something completely different from WoW, with a real time combat system and mature content. This has drawn many audiences, thanks to the previously mentioned, along with those looking to dive into the world of Conan outside of Arnold Schwarzenegger.
Unfortunatly, AoC encountered many problems. After many delays, the game finaly launched, however it boasted bugs, glitches, massive hardware requirments and a lack of content past level 20.
So, When discussing these two MMORPG's using the term "best", it really comes down to defining what "best" is.
If your looking for a stable MMO, that doesn't stray far from the norm, and features much content (with its first expansion a few days away), then LOTRO is the best
If your looking for a MMO that attempts to be unique, featuring never before seen ideas, then AoC is the "best"
I have played LOTRO, and i personaly see it as nothing more than a fun diversion from WoW (when i've temporarily burned myself out)
I have never played AoC, although i am incredibly curious to try the active time combat system, i am scared to spend $15 a month + initial cost on a game that is completely debatable
Just my 2 cents on the issue
P.S. I have no spell check, sorry for errors
