Default New Runescape Review

Runescape Review by Aaddron:

In the world of MMO's, 'premium' games like World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings Online, Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures, etc. dominate most of the industry. While 'premium' games may dominate the industry, free games are showing that they could be the future. One game that’s showing how free games could be the future is Runescape, a MMORPG made by Jagex Ltd. Runescape is an MMO that can be played using almost any computer that has an internet connection because it's played in your internet browser with no download required. Runescape has two versions, free and members, but I'll get to that later.

Runescape is extremely easy to access. Since it’s a browser game, all you have to do is create an account and navigate your way to the game page. Once you start up the game you are ready to start playing. Runescape is as easy to play as it is to access. The first time you enter Runescape you'll be on Tutorial Island. Your first task is to create a character. After you create your character you will progress through the island learning the basics and how to use all the various free skills in the game. When you reach the end of the island you'll be teleported to Lumbridge to begin you adventure in Runescape.

Runescape has two versions: Free to Play (F2P) and Members (P2P). You can play the free version as long as you want, but you'll only get about one third of the world that members get, 18 quests, and only 12 out of the 21 skills. As you can see, the free version is limited but it can still last you a long time. Member’s version cost $5 a month, which is cheap compared to the $15 a month most other MMOs charge. In the member’s version you get a huge world, over 200 quests, and all 21 skills. You'll also get more mini-games, and items.

Don't expect Runescape to be flawless. Since Runescape is a browser game made with a Java engine, its graphics are pretty bad, but expect this to improve soon. Runescape, in its recent updates, have been talking about a whole graphical makeover happening soon. While Runescape is easy to play, since all you have to do (to do anything) is click, it can also make the game repetitive. Besides being repetitive, most of the skill play the same (ex. click tool click item gain exp.). The free version also has a problem with spammers, but that’s mostly in Lumbridge and it’s almost nonexistent in member’s worlds.

Runescape, despite its flaws, is one of the best free MMOs and has come a long way. Thanks to Jagex updating Runescape almost three times a week there is always something new. Runescape is dominating a lot of free and small fee MMOs, and has a strong fan base. So, why waste time and money on downloading and paying monthly fees when you can play Runescape for free?
