After spending time in California this week, thought about a few threads like this in Ogres Breakfast. Found a great book store on my trip where many nice books were $1 each and many Manga were $3 each. The store was called Book Off. Does anybody have any other book stores that they would recommend?

Well I can't recommend a book store, but I can recommend a book I am reading currently.
It is called: The Charm School by Nelson DeMille.
Great Book. It is a Spy/Mystery book set in the Cold War time.

Thriftbooks.com - Buy cheap used books for sale online

I ordered a bunch of stuff off that over the summer, and even though the books are secondhand, every one was in very good shape. $3 manga and Sir Terry novels is win. The shipping takes a while, though--it took almost a month for them to come in.

But, if you don't feel like paying a lot for books and don't mind getting them used, I'd recommend this.

I'm going to a book fair today. They got lots of books. I may be able to find a cheap atlas that way.

Barns n Noble is usually cheap. I bought the Mary Shelley's Frankenstein book for like...a dollar?

my favorite bookstore to go into would probably be powell's in portland. Best. Ever. It's massive. Cali has a bunch of good independent ones. Pioneer Valley, in massachusetts, is a great place for independent bookstores. As far as big chains, I use borders when I want one to go to (its the one we have in town), barnes and noble because that's the one i get gift cards for, and amazon for online only. But yeah, if you're ever in portland, go to powell's. It has lots of things.

For a variety of books, I would honestly say Books-A-Million, but for cheap books, I would say any used bookstores.

Barns n Noble was the best one for me, but now I don't really read much anymore. And I have a Kindle which defeats the purpose of book stores.

I think Chapters and Indigo are the best bookstores for wide selections (Canada).
