This is the first match of the third round in the Online Shooter Showdown. Voting for this match will end on June 12th, 2010 at 12:01 AM Central.

Unlike the MMORPG Showdowns, voting in this thread will have a large say in determining the winning game because each review score in the Review Directory will be multiplied by the percentage of votes received here. For example, a game that had a 9 in the Review Directory and won all of the votes here would have an overall score of 9. If a game had a 9 in the review directory but tied here, that game would have an overall score of 4.5 because it only won 50% of the vote. In the event of an overall tie, voting will be determined via comments.

To me, Crossfire is a Counterstrike clone with some differences of its own. Sure, you don't buy weapons at the start of rounds, and it's free and all those differences, but in the end, an avid Counterstrike player will feel at home with Crossfire (though why they'd jump from a Valve-supported paid game that they PAID for, to a free game supported by some random free games company, I don't know).

AVA by contrast is more unique. You can draw comparisons between it and various games, but I think I will simply class it as 'tactical shooter'.

Now, I support AVA. Why? Because I think AVA is more fun, and has better gameplay, and looks nicer as well (Unreal Engine 3 helps). In AVA, you can switch up your class to compensate for the enemy's tactics, and the three classes are vastly different. In AVA, the leader has a pair of binoculars to spot enemies with, which will mark them on everyone's screen so that someone else can finish them off. With every map in AVA, there are sniper spots and rushing routes, even on maps that aren't as varied (such as Scorpion). All these gameplay bits (and I haven't mentioned everything yet) make AVA a more tactical and fun to play FPS.

I've made a really lengthy vote stating why I like AVA more on the vote Crossfire page. This should help turn some people going to vote for Crossfire without THINKING.

Did you try and predict only older games like Crossfire or Team Fortress 2 that were more 'safer' bets?

AVA for me. Crossfire was great last year while AVA is better this year. What does Crossfire have that is better than AVA besides ghost mode?

As much as I hate to let CrossFire go, I have been playing and enjoying AVA a bit more...the graphics are nice and tactical gameplay is more fun IMO...
