    Before watching a movie or TV show series? I'm guilty of looking at the rating before watching a movie but I don't always watch trailers.

    I look at movie reviews to get a good idea about what the movie is about and what the reviewer thinks about the movie, and consider those points in whether I'd want to watch the movie or not. I also watch the trailer for myself to see if I'd be interested, but a movie review describes a lot more for decision-making.

    I dont really care about the rating. Always the trailer. maybe I should consider the ratinga from now on coz I have watched quite a few movies that I felt I wasted my money on the cinema.

    I actually do both just to be sure!!! I enjoyed some movies that had low rating on imdb so lesson learned!!

    I watch trailers and i don't check imdb ratings at all. Sometimes i watch movies without watching trailers or reviews to have more genuine experience. Nowadays i have not been watching that many movies and last one i watched was Captain America: Civil War which i watched last year.

    Usually if it's a movie coming out soon I watch the trailer. If its a movie already out I just get input from friends.

    You're right it's not always reliable, I've seen movies with 6/10 ratings turn out to be really great movies. But if a movie has a rating of like 5/10 or below chances are it's not that good from what I've seen.

    Also usually comedies tend to have a lower rating unless it's like Dumb and Dumber or Superbad.

    I only watch trailers. I never look up the ratings or watch reviews of the movies beforehand. Sometimes a friend might recommend me a movie but even then I still watch the trailer.

    Watching a trailer is pretty much all you need before watching a movie in full.
