come to think of it there are not many free online games that i know of that use music and even if they do it is often in midi, especially if they're browser based. Utopia up until a few years ago had some decent midi music.

There's some single player and multiplayer games that I think make good use of music. Gangsters2, Caesar3, American Conquest, Braveheart, Shogun Total War, Rome Total War all have great music. I particularly love the works of Jeff van Dyk, anything he creates is gold.
