Metal Assault Interview with Aeria Games

"Metal Assault (often referred to as MA) is a free-to-play 2D shooter game developed by GNI & Sesi Soft and published by Aeria Games. There are 4 different characters to choose from, each with their own talents and abilities. There are four different types of PvP game modes. The classic Deathmatch is all out battle, but a practice mode is also available. Players can also play a camp-capture mode and the deadly Zombie mode. You gain experience through completing missions, quests, and through PvP and PvZ (player vs zombie) battles. However, there is a difference between level EXP and license EXP, which increases your proficiency with different types of weapons."

GameOgre: Metal Assault (often referred to as MA) is a free-to-play 2D shooter game developed by GNI & Sesi Soft and published by Aeria Games. Can you tell us about the backstory for Metal Assault and what drew Aeria Games to Metal Assault as a publisher?

Aeria Games: The game’s back story is based in a modern timeline with semi-futuristic elements. The saga begins with a mysterious explosion in a secret underground laboratory and the disappearance of the army’s head of military research. Also missing is a heretofore rumored invention, the Heaven Drive. Desperate to recover both the research scientist and the Heaven Drive, the military assembles a team of their best operatives to recover both.

GameOgre: How does being a 2D shooter affect gameplay and what advantages over a 3D game does it have?

Aeria Games: First of all, not requiring a huge upgrade in your system spec is always welcomed by players who are looking for something fun and easy to pick up and start playing. In the age of special effects and 3D graphics, MA offers a smooth gameplay and easy navigation.

GameOgre: Currently Metal Assault offers 4 playable Characters each with a rich background story and different skill sets. How important will choosing your character be to your gameplay and will new characters be added in the future?

Aeria Games: Each character carries a unique skill set to the gameplay. As with many other games, choosing a character is also a representation of each player’s personality and preference and we believe that ultimately, everyone will find their favorite characters.

GameOgre: What is your favorite Character to play and why?

Aeria Games: Marie, because of her specialty in sniping abilities. Using sniper rifles to shoot down enemies in PVP mode is just too fun! Also, her AI because she has both speed and power. A well balanced, all around character is fun and easy to play within both Mission mode and PVP mode. PLUS the girl characters look better in special costumes.

GameOgre: Players level up in Metal Assault by completing missions, quests, and through PvP and PvZ (player vs zombie) battles. However, there is a difference between level EXP and license EXP. Can you explain the different types of Experience and how each one affects the growth of your character?

    Aeria Games:
    - Experience Points ( Level EXP) = Gain access to better defensive armor
    - Weapon License (License EXP) = Gain access to better weapons

GameOgre: There are four different types of PvP game modes. Deathmatch, Practice, Camp-Capture and Zombie mode. Can you tell us the difference in each mode and what players can gain from each mode?

    Aeria Games:
    - Deathmatch – As the name indicates, this is a PVP mode where players’ main goal is to kill as many as possible within the given time while constantly respawning after death.
    - Practice (Team Free Battle, mode name not finalized) – Modified Deathmatch mode where it’s one death per round per team member to pick a round winning team. Can play up to 100 rounds.
    - Camp-Capture – This is a capture-the-flag type of a PVP mode where the goal is to capture the enemy base then defend it for a given time (like setting a bomb and defending it until it detonates in other FPS games). A single round game mode.
    - Zombie Mode – A PVP mode where in each round, randomly selected player(s) will turn into zombie(s) and non-zombie players need to kill the zombie player, while the zombie player must infect others to turn them into zombies. The round ends when all players turn into zombies or all zombie players are dead.

GameOgre: Tell us a little about how the questing and missions will work in Metal Assault. What can players expect to do or find in a typical quest or mission?

Aeria Games: Both questing and doing missions closely follow through the storyline. Players are tasked with various types of gathering, killing, surviving, etc, in order to complete missions and quests.

GameOgre: At the moment what is your favorite quest or mission to do and why?

Aeria Games: Boss missions are always fun to do because you get the feeling of accomplishment that you have conquered the zone when you complete them. Also they are quite difficult so everyone who likes challenges will enjoy them.

GameOgre: Can you tell us about the Custom Player Taunts, how they will work, and what they are good for?

Aeria Games: Custom taunts are text-based taunts that are keybound to the F1-F12 keys. They are initially set up to have team support commands as well as player taunts, but can be customized with any text (barring the blocked words list, of course). Use these commands to quickly coordinate within a team, or just use them as a fast way to say common phrases.

GameOgre: Metal Assault is a free to play game, as with most free to play games will you offer micro-transactions? If yes, what can players expect to be available for purchase and how it will affect gameplay?

Aeria Games: As with all titles in our catalogue, the micro-transaction model allows players to accelerate their abilities in-game. Players will be able to purchase items that will assist them such as new and more dynamic weapons.

GameOgre: Metal Assault also offers 4 different vehicles. Can you tell us how the vehicles will work, how players control the vehicles and what advantages the vehicles offer ingame?

Aeria Games: Two of the four vehicles, the Tomahawk743 and HMK-29, both seat four players. The Tomahawk743 allows players to position themselves in aerial attack while the HMK-29 is a straight bulldozer type of vehicle. The Guardian-175 seats one but has a massive amount of power and range. The D-TX23 also seats one but is more fluid when equipped, and is essentially a personal combat mechanism.

GameOgre: Will more vehicles be added in the future for Metal Assault?

Aeria Games: We are still in the process of determining our content release schedule, though we plan to keep the community updated with patch notes each time new content is added to the game. At this time we are not aware of any further development plans for vehicles from GNI & Sesi Soft, but many other new features are in the works. We are not at liberty to disclose any details, but we anticipate socks being fully rocked!

GameOgre: When a player starts Metal Assault for the first time, do you have any advice for them?

Aeria Games: “Strike First, Strike Hard, No Mercy!†And pick your weapon of choice early so you can invest your license points to acquire better weapons of your specific choice and use your upgrade items to make those weapons more powerful.

GameOgre: Are there any other features or information about Metal Assault you would like to tell our community about?

Aeria Games: We have a series of events leading up to closed beta to keep the players up-to-date with Metal Assault, such as our social networking events. Anyone can participate in these events and the prizes can be used in MA.

GameOgre: Have you set a date for the closed beta or open beta for Metal Assault yet and for those interested in participating in the beta how can they register for that?

Aeria Games: Closed beta is scheduled for late first quarter. Players can register for CB by visiting: Metal Assault - Free Run and Gun Shooter at Aeria Games!.
