    Just go on Minecraft than Multiplayer than Add server and type IP and than just play. I don't understand what do you mean ''online''.. Search on youtube for extra help.

    You or him will have to make a server or join an existing one (look around online for minecraft servers). Alternatively you can use Minecraft Realms, it's a relatively small fee and basically it sets up and hosts a server for you.
