I'm gonna start on my big project. I'll be using Game Maker to make a game, specifically, a platformer with RPG elements. Now, I could just upload it onto Yoyo games, but I could give the exe file to Gameogre, and you (ogreman) could use it as your own game (upload it onto MegaUpload or something, and put a link in the forums or something). This is important, because then I would base it on ogres, instead of whatever characters I would otherwise choose. So... what do you think?

Here are the thoughts that came to my head as I read this post:

    1) Game Maker is amazing
    2) Cool
    3) Don't upload it to YoYo, make some $ w/ it if your working that hard
    4) An ogre platformer?
    5) I wonder how long this will take

I don't think you can legally sell it PSU.

Um... can I please have whatever your smoking?

One of the things Game Maker is best known for (besides from being a great tool to easily make games with without knowing coding) is that you can sell the games that you make, whether it be to your friends, people online, etc. Most people don't do this as they never make a game worth selling. And besides, notice I said make money with it, that does not necessarily mean sell, as most people often assume. I know a way to make money with Game Maker games (if they are good enough). I've already made a few bucks from games. But that's besides the point, it's awesomedrako's call.

Sounds good. The more Ogre games the better:). We could put it in the Review Directory and Forum.

I think that it would be a lot of fun to check out a user-made game. I am excited to see how it comes out. Hopefully it does not take long to make this game. I hope that it is fun. It may become my second favorite online game. It probably wouldn't be able to beat out Ryzom, but if it is addictive I'll be all over it.

Alright then, Ogre game it is. Any suggestions of a title?

And psufootball, I plan for it to be completely free. It's only a Game Maker game anyway.

    Ogreland is one possibility :)

I was considering Ogre Heroes, but it sounds a bit cheesy.

Ogreland sounds better. Just my personal opinion.

*And for the record, you can still make money off of a free game. (how do I know? because I've done so!) I wasn't implying you charge people to play. However, its your game, you can choose to do what you want with it.

*Also for the record, Game Maker 7 pwns Game Maker 8.

How does the Game Maker Pro stuff change it?

    And why is 7 better?

I am gonna use RPG toolkit soon. Gah I've been so busy lately.

One word: transparency. In 7 it was so much easier to use, in 8, I simply can't figure it out.

GM8's big deal was the sprite editor. But if you were going to need to do that much in-depth work with sprites, why not use Photoshop or The GIMP?

I'm also getting into RPG Maker now, but its a bit confusing

Nah, RPG maker has no actual coding. RPG toolkit is made of awesome though.

    Yes.

RPG maker isn't free. At least not legally.

Exactly. Not that I've actually used it illegally, I've only ever started the program like four times, and I've never published a game with it. In fact, I wasn't even sure if it was still on my hard drive. Personally, I feel Game Maker gives you so many more ways to do things.

    Which one do you use?
RPG2k3 is....weird. It was never realesed in America, but somebody made a translation patch thingie for it, and now it's widely avalible on the web.

I have only used it twice :)

Straight out code in Java gives you the most ways to do things.

Ogre Heroes may be good for a RTS game like League of Legends:).
