Neverwinter Will Be Free to Play

    Cryptic Studios has revealed to IGN that its upcoming RPG, Neverwinter, will be transformed from a cooperative multiplayer game to a free-to-play MMO experience.

    The plan – driven by Cryptic’s new owner, Perfect World Entertainment – will transform Neverwinter into an action MMORPG similar to Vindictus. Neverwinter will also use a modified version of the engine used in Star Trek Online and Champions Online. However, unlike those games, content packs will remain free – premium (paid) content will stick to consumables and cosmetics. The changes will also push the game’s release date back to later in 2012.

    I have been really excited about this game since it was first announced long time ago. I grew worried when PWE took it over that they would ruin it and from what I hear they are.

    The game was originally to be released Nov. 2011 well now it has been moved to an undetermined date as PWE is revamping most of the game and they are removing alot of the D&D elements. Which is what makes this game so appealing in the first place. By the time they are done with it, I have a feeling we are just going to be left with an mmo like every other that has dragons in it...
