They are doing a very good job at wrecking the world currently. Made me think about rolling my passwords a little more. Bothersome keeping so many active at once, but what can I do?

Then they even hit a website that houses wannabe writers. Talk about striking close to home.

I've been writing up a storm about them lately. Every day this week I had an article about their exploits. Far less boring news week than usual. ;)

And then they moved on and crashed CIA.gov with a DDoS.

... Proves our government SUCKS because a DDoS would send they Ip addresses I am pretty sure. Which would paint a pretty white line towards their computers they are using for DDoS.

"we've been causing mayhem and chaos throughout the Internet, attacking
several targets including PBS, Sony, Fox, **** websites, FBI, CIA, the U.S. government, Sony some more,
online gaming servers (by request of callers, not by our own choice), Sony again, and of course our good
    friend Sony."

haha you know I like these guys though :p
They aren't doing anything with the info they get except point out stuff.
Like Military e-mails signed up to p o r n websites. This I found funny.

The FBI do seem slow on their feet, but I suspect it's because LulzSec's malice is disorganized currently. They only feel urgent because of their celebrity. The investigative organs of the US are not swift animals but they are devastating when they swing into motion.

True that the DDoS would give away the IP addresses used; but if 80% of those addresses are infected zombie computers in China, even the CIA would be able to do little about that. :operator:

It is so easy to get Ip's to hack those computers too :p Did a little research.
Can we do a DDoS to LulzSec?

Now that would just be begging to be attacked.

Finding those computers won't give us LulzSec. Just whatever subset of their battle botnet they were using. With enough access and time, we could trace it back to the botnet control (or at least a subnet control) and perhaps eventually back to the origin point; but it's unlikely that would give us anything but a proxy used to receive and broadcast commands.

Fun thing. We ran with some stories critical of LulzSec on SiliconANGLE this week and shortly thereafter the site got hit by a DDoS attack. Fun times. :operator:

Not what I was trying to say :p sorry.
I meant, I was doing research and found out it is very easy to get Ip addresses of people so you can hack them to make them your slave.

Ah, that is a good point.

Thinking on this. There are actually worms in the wild that, after installing themselves, will patch the exploit they used to breach the computer system so that other worms can't take it away from them. People who write botnet worms know that other hackers (and worms) will be looking to infect the computer they've got.

    It's a beautiful ecosystem. :book:

I am not embarrassed to admit a thorough fascination for hackers (even LulzSec) although they couldn't exist if the industry actually paid attention to its security.

I suppose that's exactly what they've said about the matter. :policeman:

I'm just much amused by people publicly poking holes in digital security.

And it is so full of holes there are automated Internet worms that exploit the problems people leave open and turn websites into hosts for other mean tricks. (Such as happened to one of my sites once.) If the people who wrote these worms had them phone home, they might even be able to easily use them to steal the databases they're connected to.

It's about time that peeps started paying attention to their online security and compartmentalized their use of credentials so that if a worm hacks a gaming site and downloads their login information they also cannot get into their primary e-mail with it.

Otherwise, next thing they know, some gold farmer in China has hax0red their World of Warcraft account, sold their characters naked, and mailed the gold to hundreds of gold banking accounts.
