Videogame map editors give players a chance to exert their talent. While most of the mods are pure mods, there are some that have the potential to go further, say, become a full game. World of StarCraft is the latest big hit on mod world. The mod's created with StarCraft 2 map editor by a group of hardcore fans led by Ryan Winzell. Looking from the gameplay video, the mod, or the game is like a sci-fi version of World of Warcraft, or a StarCraft MMO. But Blizzard isn't happy to see that and claims that the team doesn't have the right to use the name World of StarCraft.

At present, Blizzard's concern is not on the content of the game but the name. World of StarCraft is obviously sounded like an official name for StarCraft MMO since there's been the case of World of Warcraft. Blizzard of course doesn't want any other to use it. But Blizzard himself hasn't registered World of StarCraft, similar to the case of DOTA.

Blizzard's invited Ryan's team to discuss with StarCraft 2 developers and the issue's been almost settled. Ryan Winzell won't be sued, what's more he may continue his development with changing a name for his game. So Blizzard says "no" to Ryan's team, but Riot Games wants to open the door to them. According to the latest report, Riot Games has tried to invite Ryan to work for them. Another Icefrog that's so close to Blizzard to be taken away by other companies?
