This December, four Georgia Tech students will host the
third annual 4/48 Zelda Marathon and attempt to establish a new world record (pending approval by the Guinness Book of World Records) for Child’s Play Charity, which donates toys, books and games to patients of children’s hospitals all over the world.

The event, projected to begin on December 20, will be broadcast live online, and has previously attracted thousands of viewers from around the world to watch as the team of four plays through all the major releases in the Legend of Zelda series of video games, dating back to 1986. Those who want to learn more about the event and donate to Child’s Play can do so at www.zelda448.com.

Last year the marathon lasted forty one hours, and garnered thousands of viewers who interacted with marathon team members and other viewers around the clock. “Zelda is one of the most recognizable names in gaming,†explains Peter Sohl, Event Coordinator, “people of all ages have played and love the series, and something like The 4/48 Zelda Marathon is a great way for those individuals to interact with each other while raising money for a good cause.†Those who tune in for the marathon will be able to chat with the team, and will have the opportunity to determine the games which will be played through their donations.

Child’s Play Charity (www.childsplaycharity.org) is a gaming industry charity dedicated to improving the lives of patients in over sixty children’s hospitals worldwide through donations of toys and games. Since its inception in 2003, the charity has raised over 5 million dollars in total donations. “We rely heavily on community run initiatives,†says Kristin Lindsay, Foundation Coordinator for Child’s Play. “These fund raising events represent our greatest strength: the generosity and determination of gamers.â€

“The 4/48 Zelda Marathon is all about playing great games for a great cause,†says Ryan Adams, another member of Team 4/48, “and we’re really excited to be able to tailor the marathon based on the donations of our viewers. It really is a community effort.â€

Watch The Zelda 4/48 Marathon live online at www.zelda448.com starting at 4:00 pm EST on December 20th.

I think it would be really neat if we could get a bunch of GO Members to be there :) Great cause and would give Ec2 something to do :D
