Guild Wars
In a nut shell, Guild Wars provides Diablo 2 game play in a free MMORPG with eye-popping graphics. That's correct, Guild Wars offers a persistent world like a MMORPG but does not charge a monthly fee. Instead, like the Diablo games, you buy it in stores and then play online for nothing.

Comment: Guild Wars drove me to want to play offline games for some time. The graphics are great, but the people, frankly, ruin the atmosphere. I have to quote someone below for the observation that (in the first chapter): "everyone is either a pervert, a rascist, and idiot, or any combination of the three" At least in Eve, you"re stuck with people playing the game, and don"t constantly get spammed teenie bopper nonsense. In GW, the centre of every town seems to be a pit of people dancing and shouting LOL LIKE REALLY SHUT UP NICE! which the world bubbles make impossible to ignore. Added to which, if you want to get anywhere interesting, you can"t go it alone. The economy is stupid (yay, dye). I"d like to see another game do this genre better. WOW certainly doesn"t. GW is a step in the right direction but not halfway there. No, I don"t want to run that mission for the 200th time for the 0.00000000000001% chance of getting that awesome item. Leave me alone.

MR darklord i think WOW is even worst when come to bugs. i think GW cleared the Bug and balance a lot of skills every week? compare to WOW i think skill update is like 1 year per update i didnt see much improvment for WOW compare to GW

WOW have come out with 3 expansion and GW with 4 and i can see that every expension GW tried to come up with something cool. in faction introduce end game item, etc. NF introduce tresure chest and hero and EOTN introduce hero books and title

WOW? um... all i see is ok most of u are lv 60 make new expansion and raise up cap to 70 and new expansion raise lv cap to 80 and then 90.........at the end 200 lvl?

GW have over 700 skills compare to WOW i think only 100 skills which most of them are passive and only a few skills being used while the rest are useless.

this is totally great game with very active GMs and Admins

Comment: Graphics are great.
Awesome that there is no monthly fee.
The gameplay is very linear, you pretty much end up doing the same thing over and over again, there is little replayability.
you can only have 8 skills equipped at one time :/
personally, I know a lot of people love the whole "instance thing" but I hate having to group up in a town, and then set out, to have people not make it through the loading, end up leaving half way through the mission, etc.
overall I didn't care much for the game, but at least I can go back to it whenever I want.

Comment: Oh. Wow. I"ve never laughed more at a comment. Gamergal, most of what you said has been corrected, but still it has to be said.

Pvp - You start off in -RANDOM- Arenas. Once you win there a few times, you unlock -TEAM- Arenas. In Team Arenas you can choose your group carefully from the players who have also unlocked it. Once you win there a few times, you unlock the High Class PvP spot. Which I forget the name for.. anyway, the PvP is a big part of this game, and Random Arenas is like a luck of the draw type thing. Nobody is at a disadvantage or an advantage.

Payment - You pay once for the Access Key, and you can play forever for free from there. There are currently three games and an expansion, you have to buy each to play them all.

PvE - There are quests, which is your general "go here, kill that, protect this, follow him" story. Then there"s missions, which is a more epic version of quests.

Community - The community is what you make. You can join a guild and only talk to those people in it, or you can converse with everyone. If there is someone you don"t like, you can ignore them, meaning you can"t see what they say. You can -ALWAYS- get a group. ALWAYS. Real People, or not. You can use real people in a mission, which is fun, but it takes longer because you have to wait for them. Ooooorrr, you can use NPC characters like Henchman or Heroes. It"s a little harder, because no AI is perfect, but you get the job done.

Graphics - The graphics are among the best I"ve seen for low-budget computers.

Combat - There are infinite combinations of Skill Builds! You play how -you- want.

Comment: This game scores a perfect 10 in my book. The game play is fun and you are never doing the same thing two times in a row. Different types of monsters make you use different skills. Build up a guild, get an alliance going and just dominate in the player vs player (PvP) aspect of the game. And to top it all off, there is no monthly fee. If you played WoW and tired of paying monthly, check this game out.

Comment: coming from a guild war veteran heres my review

graphics(10/10):
the graphics in guildwars can beat almost any other mmorpg at full value however it also requires a good graphic card at full value

combat(7/10):
gets boring after awhile since everyone either makes you run a build or shuns you which isnt bad but some places scare off the new players because of this making it so hard to find a random group, as well as you not being able to solo anything without a proper invincible build which is nice because it forces players to either suck with henchmen and heroes(unless your really good at micromanagement) or join other players which most of the time is really better than hench/hero build

community (5/10):
the community could be a bit nicer to new players basically theres always that person in every group that goes around spamming omg noob when really hes a even bigger noob 8)

things to do (5/10):
not much here you either become a pvper or a pver theres no minigames no side professions such as fishing and you cant even solo as efficently as a group can unless you get really good with invicible builds which ruins the fun <.< although guild wars gwen did add a lot of neat stuff that gets boring over time such as polymock, boxing, and the norn arena

end game content (1-10/10):
the amount of end game stuff you can do is entirely based on which expansions you have in fact they made a expansion (eye of the north) purely for the max level players to do end game stuff such as dungeons

economy 1/10:
your either rich or your poor =) theres no inbetween most of the stuff costs around alot so if your not rich most of your money will be burned out into stuff you find out you will need

other things to note:
-guild wars is not a mmorpg like most people think its like diablo you goto towns make groups and go to a specific area once your in the area people CAN leave but no one can enter... making this really frustrating when you have a rage quiter in your group who decides to quit halfway through
-guild wars is 100% free after you buy the expansions making it really nice since you dont have to use a credit card or buy pre paid cards
-gets boring after awhile >.> not to much to do when youve been playing for 1 or more year
-monsters are really overpowered if you try to go out by yourself without anyone including hench/heroes youll generally die by the smallest groups unless you bring a strong build even with a strong build you still cannot solo most things
-a lot of things will really get your attention that are actually worthless other than for show example mini pets are a big waste of money although their cool they do nothing =)
also the 1k max armor are the same as the 15k armor their just duller and less appealing so dont spend all your money like i did on 3 sets of 15k armor lol

my views of this game:
this game can be very nice or very dull depending on your guild... personally i like smaller guilds since i know everyone in it =).... also this game gets very dull after awhile especially since everywhere you go there is a specific build everyone looks for even if you manage to get the build they expect everyone to know how to use it making this game really stressful for new players

Comment: Great game. Worth the rating.

@Gamergal :

That's what renting is for, genius. You rent before you buy and if you don't like it you save the money. Apparently you live under a rock and don't even know what ''renting'' is, am I right?

As for your community hating..

THIS IS THE INTERNET, WHAT GOOD COMMUNITY DO YOU EXPECT TO FIND?

Also, every game has lag. It's an INEVITABILITY.

Comment: Gamergal has a highly inaccurate view of this game and its features. I've played for a year and a half now, and have no idea what she is talking about.

Yes, you have to buy the game. So? This isn't a cash-shop grindfest. You have to pay programmers and staff to run a quality game somehow, and I would rather pay an up front flat fee than for either a monthly or cash-shop model.

I have very rarely had any problem finding people to quest with. GW is unique, especially with the additions of Nightfall and Eye of the North, in that you have have a large number of customizable heroes, as well as non-customizable henchmen that can accompany you. You can quite literally beat the game in normal mode (and nearly all of hard mode) without ever really having to group with another human. This gives you some flexibility and freedom from having to sit around looking for a party when you want to play. At the same time however, that means that you have to look for others that you could quest with reliably. You can join pick up groups (though that does leave you at the mercy of a random person's skills or lack thereof), or just join any sizable guild (they are everywhere), and ask in the alliance chat (which will likely have hundreds of members) if someone will help you in a particular area. Most people who are not doing something at that moment will be willing to help. If you don't like the focus of that guild, and it does too much pve/pvp and not enough of the other, then just find another one. They are easy to change, and cost you nothing.

The community is not "Awful! Unfriendly, unhelpful, rude..." etc. There are people that can be, like in any game, but to generalize like that is nonsense. Most people chat more within their guild and alliance than in the public chat, simply because those are the people that they will most readily be questing with, pvping, trusting not to be scammed by, etc. You do have to make SOME effort to establish human relationships. It is GUILD Wars.

This person obviously has very little experience in pvp. There are numerous arenas and styles of pvp, not just the Random Arena 4v4. The Random Arena is not considered serious pvp. It is something there to get a quick pvp fix, because generally there is no wait time, and you don't have to bother finding a group, as they are put together automatically. Team Arenas is an organized 4v4 match, where each team sets up before the match, and then faces off against others in a mini-ladder contest. Guild vs. Guild combat sets 8 people in one guild against 8 people in another guild, where one group storms the other one's guild hall and tries to kill their guild lord and the other team. It is great fighting with your friends and closer guildmates. There are also 12 vs 12 Alliance Battles where you capture shrine points while fighting the other side, 1 v 1 Hero Battles, where it is you and your hero npcs that you control versus another players'. There are also ladder tournaments with 8v8. Essentially, gamergal has obviously had no real experience playing this game.

There is lag sometimes at peak hours, but it is scattered, rather than constant, like in Perfect World.

Comment: I've played bot WoW and GW and both are very good in my opinion. The main problem with guild wars is that the lag can be anywhere from tiny to a 10 min wait to see something move and you can't take a proffession like fishing or smelting like you can in WoW. Overall though the graphics and sound are nice and the gameplay is great for a free mmo. I give it a 7/10.

Comment: Cost:
You have to buy the game. If you don't like the game, you've wasted your money.

Quests and missions:
Lots of them. Gets monotonous. Some you can do solo, some need other player to help.
No guild member online to help? No friends online to help? Good luck finding some one else.

Community:
Awful! Unfriendly, unhelpful, rude. People constantly bug you to join their guild. Filled with 10 year old kids or those with that mind-
set.

Arena for pvp :
Group of 4 player team . You have no choice of players on your team. If team's not a good class mix or low level players.... your team loses.

Lag:
Yes there's lag sometimes.

Comment: "PvP - 3/10: Now we come to the dirty, low-down part of the review. The system for PvP is very innovative, with separate characters, customizable weapons and armour, etc. But the system is also the most noob-unfriendly thing I’ve ever seen. every single time I enter the PvP, I get owned by a bunch of elites that kill my party every 5 seconds. Terrible PvP."

( i bet this guy sux in pvp and didnt do much Team arena and or even hero arena)

let me continue a little more on pvp

pvp rating 9.5
almost flawless with over 1k skills and u can make any combo with 8 skill inculding 1 skill elite in the 8 skills makes ur build very interesting. ur build are more or less balance for example if u are playing protection and self heal tank u cant do dmg much. if u go aggressive u wont be able to heal urself. HOH is perfect to have 3 grp fighting each other. having 1-1 guild is just showing how skilled u are but have 3grps makes u use more of ur brain on how to make 2 of them lose to u when u are outnumbered.

in PVP

RA aka random arena

this is an arena for beginner to start with when u dont have friends playing with u or u are new. u did not require to have friend but the system will port u to random team of 4 what makes this fun is its random =) and what doesnt make this fun is probably someone below who said pvp in gw is terrible is in ur team

TA aka team arena

team arena is totally the same with RA except u have to grp before going in making u build a grp combo.

HA aka hero ascent

unlike TA or RA this is a 8 player pvp this pvp wining 5 times will enable u to join HOH

HOH hall of hero

same as HA except u have 3 teams inside this makes u to have 2 opponent instead of usual 1
winning in HOH will earn u a athority to open a HOH chest which have rare items inside it

Guild vs Guild

battle for only guild member vs other guild member of 8 vs 8
winning in this will allow u to raise ur guild rating

AB or alliance battle

flag capture base pvp ( like battle field) of 12 vs 12

killing count as 1 point and capturing counts as 2 point every few sec ( cant remember how many sec) team that reaches 500 point first won the point can be use to own a town for many benefits

Comment: I’ve played this game for… What? 3 months now? And I love it. Graphics are great, Audio gives good atmosphere, Community is nice-ish, and best of all, gameplay.

Graphics - 9/10: The graphics are eye-poppingly good for this game, and I feel I’m being un-just here, playing on a 4 year old craputer. The NPCs and characters look, sadly, like they’ve been hit with the ugly bat, and the armour graphics on the other players are not as good as your own. You’ve got to love the armour art and variety of textures. The best graphics are in NoobLand, while the area around Kaineng Center in the Factions campaign is a bit of an eyesore.

Lag - 9/10: Met nearly no lag through my gaming experience. a few times I was subject to spontaneous ‘lagathons’, but it passed. Also, expect lag in heavily populated cities.

Audio – 8/10: On some places it’s epic, while on others, it’s monotonous after a while. Great atmospheric audio, but you’ll be turning on your iPod in a few occasions. The sound is pretty quiet, so expect to screw up your volume bar to full. Monster sounds are, well, pretty normal, not epic or dull.

Gameplay – 9.5/10: The explorable world is huge, considering you can’t climb, swim, jump, or otherwise move on the vertical axis. Grinding is moderate to minimal, as you’ll be kept busy with the delicious buffet of quests. As to keep you from grinding on the same weak level 0 monster all the time, you’ll only gain exp from monsters 5 levels below you or stronger. Once you reach the low-low cap of level 20 though, it all changes. I gained levels 1-15 pretty fluidly, and got my way to level 20 by repeatedly doing a very fun mission, all in a little more than a week. Oops. HUGE mistake doing that even before you made it through half the story. The 5 level exp limit gets pretty harsh in my situation, because even though I managed very far in the story after a few attempts, all I could do hunting was two things: get owned heroically by a horde of level 28 monsters, or stomp a bunch of weak level 11 monsters. My exp bar stood practically static. Once in while I would find a good few level 16 monsters, though. So, game gets dull after the level cap. Instancing is probably the best feature; since my problem in most MMOs is getting kill-stealed all the time, and the monster populations in those MMOs are so low one could imagine it as one of the nightmares of the leader of WWF.

Community – 6/10: The game-wide community is mediocre at best, and I’ve seen a lot of ‘shouters’ in my sessions on GW. They shout random and mostly offensive things with caps on, and the others respond back with more insults. Quite a few players I know are verrrrrrrrry inactive, while others take GW as seriously as real life. The guild community is great, friendly and helpful, but I’ve yet to see a guild with more than 6 players active at a time.

PvP - 3/10: Now we come to the dirty, low-down part of the review. The system for PvP is very innovative, with separate characters, customizable weapons and armour, etc. But the system is also the most noob-unfriendly thing I’ve ever seen. every single time I enter the PvP, I get owned by a bunch of elites that kill my party every 5 seconds. Terrible PvP.

Pricing and Future Development - 9/10: The games are dirt cheap, having my much beloved pay-once-and-never-again system, and, living in Sweden, I spent about $150 for the 3 campaigns. I lament the fact that the franchise ends here and development on GW2 has begun, but joining so early in the game, I didn’t expect to understand why either. I appraise that there is no foreseeable end in the franchise, and the pricing system is going to continue.

OVERALL – 8.7/10: A very good game, except for PvP. It’s a definite keeper.

Comment: The thing I like about GW is that since it is free to play, I don't feel pressured to go play it at any time. And for a free online RPG it's just great value. I saw someone mentioning you have to pay for each campaign. So? It's a small cost, especially since that's all you pay for and nothing else. There's also more stuff in the ingame store to purchase, but it's not essential.

The graphics are not 2008 state of the art, but quite great looking for a three year old game. The PvE campaigns, stories and characters, plus the skills and PvP battle systems are quite well done. Right now I'm doing Eye of the North and loving it. So thumbs up for GW, I'm sticking with it.

Comment: WTF..Dear Mr."worldofwarcraft4life
"(3rd post below this one), why the hell did you give Gw a "0" when you haven't even played it? Allright, Gw (All campaigns combined) are approx. 3 times as big as WoW (With Expansion), secondly, GW has the BEST MMO Graphics out of all MMORPGS, so your statement about "Getting lost as if it was real life" is actually more appropriate for Gw & it falls flat. Your objurgatory comments about Gw are all bogus, I think GW is much more fun compared to WoW, Gw has EXCELLENT PvP structure & surpasses WoW's PvP by far (Go read WoW's reviews, tons of people said that...lmao), besides, WoW's graphics seem OBSOLETE after playing GW whose graphics drench your senses the moment you get into it and redefine reality! What the hell do you mean by: "fun stuff and meeting new people and exploring new places" ????? You meet people in GW too; you explore new places and do funs stuff, besides this, Arena NET has done a commendable job creating such a Top-Notch MMORPG with NO FEES, unlike BLIZZARD, whoi made the game for the sake of SUPER NORMAL PROFIT (In business terms), this shows how much they care about the customers, respectively. So these vague statements are of no value, so if you're so much obssesed with WoW, go play it & stop writing fallacious pathetic reviews about GW.

Comment: I fail to see why everyone hates GW. It's free, doesn't require months of grinding to have fun. Since the major downfall until level 70 on WoW you've got nothing to do besides quests. PvP yay time to get owned by a twink? Dungeons? Why bother just get a boost problem solved.

Still level 20 cap isn't going to be much of a problem as stated GW2 will have a higher cap.

WoW is #1 online game and always will be untill the WOTLK comes out then after that some basics updates like fixing buggs and then let players run it into the ground. But if u want a FUN game ALWAYS turn to WoW ALWAYS! i give this game a 0 out of 10 and WoW a 15 out of 15!

Comment: Ok, first of all, I'd say that its Graphics are uncomparable, not even WoW comes close to them, great gameplay & totally awsome PvP structure, secondly I'd like to tell everyone about the SIZE of this game ESPECIALLY COMPARED TO WoW, well, for those who think that Wow is bigger than GW, they are sadly mistaken and this ahs been proved by many sites, I'd like to mention the true figure of its size scaled in-game:

WoW: 106 Square Kilometers
GW:(All 3 Combined): 301 Square Kilometers!!!

and lets not forget that Wow's are is merely as big as(or maybe a bit bigger) GW:Prophecies+Eye of the North. SO 10/10 for this to-notch MMORPG.

Comment: I"ve played the game for 30 months. I have done what is possible.

The game was and is still a great game but with the expansion Eye of the North it really got messed up. A new skill got introduced. An elite skill called Ursan blessing. So now when u get the game don"t expect to get a party without maxed rank of the Norns and Ursan Blessing in your skill bar.

(The rank is 1-10 rank which for each rank you gain the skill gets better, the skill works only in PvE so if you like PvP its still great!)

8/10

1 point lost for the skill Ursan Blessing
1 point lost for not a single game in the universe is gooe enough to get a 10, a game just can"t be perfect. Look at Crysis, great graphics yeah. But stupid on every other aspect!

Comment: With all the features Guild Wars has to offer, the only thing keeping other MMOs alive is the fact that those users probably haven"t tried Guild Wars. With breathtaking graphics, you"ll often find yourself taking a look around in awe between adventures. The amount of quests are so dense, that only a fool would need to grind, and every battle feels like a dungeon quest. That"s not to mention the most unique factor in the game: a storyline. With brilliant cut-scenes and a story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, it"s at times like playing a console RPG. As for the combat, Guild Wars focuses on skills, not equipment. With elite skills, forms, summons, and attacks, you can hack and slash through the depths of hell with vendor-bought armor. You may reach the level cap of 20 quite soon, but you"ll find that level means quite little. You power in this game is not only determined by your skills, but by your skillz as well. It"s all about setting your class and sub-class up in harmony. This unrivaled MMORPG comes to you not only with class, but an affordable price tag... and only one of them. That"s right, you pay once for the game, and then play for as many months as you"d like without a monthly fee.

Comment: Guild Wars is one of the best MMOs ever made. Maybe one of the best games ever made. There are very few flaws to the game. The fact that everywhere out of a city is instanced is both good and bad. I don't mind the level cap of 20, because you don't need to focus on what level you're on to get skills. My only major complaint is that all of the explorable areas are extremely linear. You basically have one or two paths to follow through the entire area, which ruins some of the fun of exploring. other than that, though, the game is excellent in almost every way. Plus, it's free!

Comment: I have this and it got sooooo boring. Not many classes, the people are all moronic, it's got too many seams and you have to sit around for ages just to GET anywhere. Levelling gives no kind of reward except maybe 1 new spell every 8 levels that another class can get anyway. The gear is awful, as are the mechanics... Didn't enjoy this.

Comment: I would still be playing the game if there was more stuff 2 do. After a certain point it just gets boring as hell grinding 4 titles. Theres really not much in the way of new pve experiences and all tht happens is the community find a place 2 farm x rare weapon, within a week its nerfed and we're back 2 looking.

The good aspects are the lack of grind in most places and the pvp battles are absolutely incredible. But theres just not enough storyline to the game. Instancing the map makes the game really samey throughout with little variance in gameplay. There are no lvlable crafting skills and the only thing that people really sell ingame is rare weapons. I hope Anet irons out these problems for GW2 but until then im playinf Perfect World.

Comment: This game is very good for having no monthly fee. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

Pros:
-Graphics
-Storyline
-Tons of content (Quests and Missions)
-Great replayability. Each class has distinct play styles.
-The world is huge
-Game is more skill based then level based
-Does a good job of "weeding" out noobs for high end PvE
-Each campaign offers a different experience

Cons:
-Level cap of 20 makes game feel shorter. Not as much in Prophecies which takes about half the game to hit 20. But definitely in Factions and Nightfall which is about 1/4 and 1/3 respectively.
-No trade skills so the only way to earn money is the farm and quest
-Private areas are nice, but can become lonely over time. Anyone who has played WoW understands the fun of meeting up with someone in the wilderness and questing.

Overall: This game is extremely good and the Pros outweigh the Cons. If the Cons turn you off too much, just wait for Guild Wars 2 which will have persistent areas, a higher level cap, and jumping and swimming.

Comment: The game's very geared towards gamers who like mmorpg games but hate all the inconveniences and annoyances that WoW and similar games have. The graphics are impressive, the combat is solid enough, and it has great storylines for each campaign. PvP feels more like a tournament than a war, which isnt necessarily a bad thing. It's different from other mmo's also in the lack of much customization, which isn't a huge deal, just that you'll always find someone with the same exact armor as you, that kind of stuff. It's a great game, and no subscription fees=win.

Comment: I got this game and played it for a while and then discovered some serios flaws which affectmed my game play, bugged armour issues where if you level 10 you can take on 20 mobs and they wont scratch you, but get the best arnour out there, not the art stuff and those same mobs will kick your butt.

the game is not about grinding and lvling its about exploring and getting rare weapons. also the only way to see other people in the game is by partying with them you can see anyone if you solo, so I dont class this as a real mmorpg

Comment: Graphics: As mentioned, graphics are better than any other on line game I have ever played. WoW does not compare 10/10

Questing & Mission System: The game world is not small as you may have been led to believe by many comments here and when you do beat the original Prophecies there are 2 more worlds you can buy and 1 expansion when you beat the combined 705 Quests 75 Missions 18 Dungeons you can play them over in hard mode 10/10

Guild System: The game was built around guilds (hence the name) the system for joining and designing your own guilds is flawless. When you have acquired enough in game gold you can purchase a guild hall and fill it with vendors creating a guild town for your members. From the guild hall you can access Guild vs Guild Wars, 1 on 1 PvP battles, Hero Battles, or just meet with your friends to start a party for adventuring. 10/10

Farming: Once you have achieved level 20, you can begin to hone your skills and change your secondary profession in an attempt to create a build that might allow you to venture either alone or in a small group into the Guild Wars Universe. Smaller groups yield better drop results for many items. These items can then be sold in game to other players or vendors. 10/10

Armor & Equipment: Or how you will be spending all that gold you"ve been farming. In order to craft armor you must find in game armor crafters or collectors to purchase these items from. At level 20 you will want max armor which costs 1000 gold per piece or 5000 gold for most classes, and you must supply the crafter with the raw materials necessary to craft it. There is also elite versions of most armor which look visually superior and cost 15K per piece or 75K and require rare crafting material. 10/10

Cost vs subscription games: If you paid 40.00 for your game and you have to pay 10.00 a month subscription fee by the end of 1 year you have paid 160.00 if you purchase all 3 worlds and the expansion for guild wars you also spend about that much so if you play the game for over a year there is more value in GW than some other subscription game. 10/10

Comment: First before I give the reveiw I just want to say I think it's funny how people that play WoW come and rate GW as bad even when they never played it. Now for the review.
Graphics: 10/10
They're pretty good, but this is to be expected since you have to pay $50 dollars to buy it.
Sound: 7/10
It's the same sounds over and over again ,and it gets annoying.
Gameplay: 9/10
The most important of them all. It has a pretty good gameplay ,but I think there is ways they can improve it.
Leveling: 5/10
That is the downfall. Of course as everyone has said a thousand times you can only get to level 20.
Skills: 10/10
There is a very large selection of skills to choose from. You can figure out your build that works best for you.
Items: 7/10
If you only have one game then there isn't that much stuff to choose from.

In all it's a pretty good game and I recomend it.

Comment: I will give this Game an awful rating due to the fact it will never be like WoW. Though it is fun dont get me wrong.. but there just that feeling that your in a little tiny world and leveling is not challenging. You can be level.20 and thats caps. Its just not fun and leveling is about having fun doing stuff while leveling. Thats what Guild Wars need, WoW has other methods rather than just Grinding and Questing and you get to be Lv.70 with TBC Expansion but this.. I guess will always be lv.20 Thats just me but I love games were Leveling is impossible =D

PVP is one of the best because there is unlimited amount of builds to choose from and make your ownand alot of different arenas to choose from. Also economy is usally stable unlike runescape where one day you could be rich in items and the next your broke.

Comment: Been playing since it first came out over two years ago and have all 3 campaigns plus GW:EN expansion on three accts. Since I have three accounts, mine, my husbands, and my oldest kid, i LOVE the fact that there's no additional monthly subscription fee!!!(imagine paying 3 of those suckers a month!!) Aside from that, as a family of casual gamers (primarily pve), I love the flexibility of the game. It seems to me like beating the game is only the beginning. The more I play, the more I learn different strategies, builds, capping elites, & trying out different secondary professions, etc. Trying it again with a different character altogether. Now I have heroes to build up. The title tracks are also cool. I can play for 30 minutes for a quick quest or stay up half the night. Also have been trying a bit of the pvp stuff with guildies (& I love the fact that pvp is seperate from pve and I don't have to worry about some dorkus coming up behind me and killing me or trying to steal from me). Sometimes we make it a "family" night, and play together with hubs and the kiddo. At the same time, if I don't feel like dealing with people, i can play by myself with heroes and henches and still get things done. The flexibility of the game makes it well worth the initial costs in the amount of play time you get. We are all eagerly awaiting GW2 (which is supposed to fix the two major cons I had with the game, which were the ability to jump and climb and other environment interactions and two, adding non-human characters) oh yeah, and the graphics are absolutely stunning, but i have a kickbutt computer, lol.

Comment: I bought this game because the graphics are great and there are no monthly fees.
Good:
- Graphics are great.
- Combat is smooth but does not require any real skill as FPS games do.
Bad:
- Small world.-Play through it and dont compare to WoW.
- No exploration. -There is but mayben ot like other games.
- Completely linear. -Quite a bit yeah but not COMPLETELY.
- The world outside towns and cities is more of an RPG; just you and your party exist within it. - If you dont like it don play it.
- Terrain is completely pathed. - It would not work to have all free movement in Guild Wars.
- There is no 1-on-1 PvP. - There is "Scrimmage".
- There are only about 10 different sets of armor in the whole game. - Yeah right... haha.
- Armor and weapons are completely class specific. -Tried a SECOND proffession on your character?
- Max level in 2 weeks, then what? - Well people plays thru diablo 2 LOD in 1 day and then still continues. Maybe its god who make them continue.

Personally i'd say your arent supposed to tell people whats bad and whats good before you have played it or a while.

Comment: Guild Wars is a good MMORPG. It is based on team work and to help your ally"s in combat. If you just do solo, your basically screwed. The game is pretty fun because you can bring NPC"s with you on quest"s/mission"s. Guild Wars and an amazing story line, that is the good thing about it. It has good graphics ect. But the thing"s that disappoint me are:

-If you leave a town/outpost, it"s through an instance so your basically alone. To be with people you have to invite them to your party.

-You can"t jump nor travel the whole map. I mean as in going up high terrain.

-The level cap is 20. I wish it could be something like 50 or more, but then again it makes everyone take part of the game.

-Death penalty. If you die, you gain 15% death penalty. This mean if you die and get ressurected by an ally or by a ressurection stone you lose 15% of your health and energy. The only remedy for this is going to a town/outpost, completing quest"s in the explorable area or killing monsters. It does get quite annoying (I got really annoyed) when you die and get a penalty, but once to get to about level 13-15 you die less and get used to it. Every time you die, the death penalty goes up. So if you die like three times in the explorable area, you get a 45% death penalty. This penalty stops at 60%, so you will get no more than that. This is really bad because it makes you very weak if you are fighting a boss.

-Resurection Signet. This is a skill that every proffesion has. It can resurect allies if they are dead. But what I hate about it is that you can only use it once, unless you get a morale boost. By getting a morale boost you kill something big eg; Afflicted Ritualist. I don"t know if there are other way"s, so if there are correct me please.

-There is only ONE race. Human. It would be nice to atleast have Dwarves and Elves.

There are load"s more things that I will not go into detail in. Overall, if your parents don"t let you play World of Warcraft or City of Heroes or what ever that has monthly fees. Then I recomend you getting Guild Wars, it"s a nice, mature game. The game is really not addicting, as for it"s not as good as World of Warcraft in my opinion. The game does get boring after a while, and if you decide not to play it any more, get the other campaigns. In my opinion, get Guild Wars Factions as I think is the best one. It has the professions/classes Assain"s and Ritualist that I think is a good combo together. I rate this game, a 7 - Good game, room for improvement.

Comment: I played this game for a good while with a verity of characters, and I can say it is very good. I have only got the basic game, none of the expansions though. Also, there isnt that much grind compared to other games. There are a couple of things I dont like. First, I don't like the fact that when you leave a town you are by yourself or with your party only. Also you're kind of stuck on a path. Going from place to place through missions.
It is a very unique game and I would reccommend it. You have to buy the disc/expansions, but for a gamer on a budget it is great. No monthly fees.

Easily deserves at least an 8/10

I give this game a 10 out of 10 fore I don't like games where other people can attack your monsters and just walk up to you and kill you or somthing I like my freedom to kill monsters on my own and not get somone running by and killing it or me!

Comment: Was fun at the start but got boring very quickly.

Cons: You have to unlock zones by completing missions. This prevents you from joining your friends in a specific area if you haven't already unlocked that area.

- the whole game is instanced so it does not play like a MMORPG (creators actually call it a CORPG)
- character is stuck to the ground. you can't jump or move freely throughout the maps (ie can't climb terrain etc.)
- bank space is incredibly limited.
- names pile up on characters head making it very difficult to find someone in a large group.
- no open world pvp. all the pvp is structured. ie you can't just walk up and attack someone.
- community is filled with rude elitists.

if you're looking for a true mmorpg then skip this game, you'll be dissapointed.
if rather you're looking for a diablo 2 esque game then you'll enjoy GW.

Comment: Simply brilliant. A great value.

Pros: Graphics as engaging and beautiful and vary greatly with your area. Gameplay is surprisingly simple however confusing it may look. Traveling is simple because you can press "m" to go to your map and jsut select an area you wish to go to(assuming you've been there before). The weapons, armors, and skills are beautifully designed with high detail quality. I did play this on a high end $2500 computer but even playing on a friends lower end gaming computer the graphics were vivid. This game very much caters to all types of players ranging from the casual bored person to an experienced mmorpg player. The load times between areas are fast even if it's the first time you've visited the area, usually about about 10-15 seconds on my computer. Even if you've only got a limited time to play you can pick up some henchmen to help you, leave town, level for a bit and end up back in town after enjoying the game.

Cons:Limited but the community can tend to be rude to other players but you can make good friends. Sometimes the missions in the game can be time consuming and may not give people with limited play time a chance to finish them without dedicating a little more time. The economy is rather confusing when you first start but you can learn it quickly if you're willing to ask questons.

Definitly worth a try if you've got the money for the game. You can buy the first Guild Wars and enjoy it as much as owning all the expansions as well if you;re on a limited budget.

Comment: I own Guild Wars Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall. The Guild Wars series features amazing graphics and a huge storyline, with an awesome community to help you with the endgame missions (if you ever reach them).
PvE: Doing the storyline has it goods and its bads. The goods include a massive array of skills, fully customizable characters, ranging from craftable weapons to designed capes. The storyline is absolutely huge, with many players pressing the map hotkey, thinking the map is huge, and then realizing that they are still in the tutorial section, with the full game map being almost 10 times the size. Also, during the storyline, you have chances to do fun missions at holiday events, such as organized snowball fights, and can earn and unlock special titles which enhance your characters strength in certain game areas.

PvP: PvP is probably what attracted me to Guild wars the most. For those who love PvP as much as I do, Factions is a must have game, as it allows massive 'Captures the enemies base' type games, while still offering Guild versus Guild battles and the Arenas. One good thing about PvP is the fact that you can start of at lvl 20 (the maximum level) to enter the arenas of Alliance Battles straight away. For every kill you or your team makes, you unlock faction which can be used to purchase skills for your PvP chars, allowing you to make them stronger. You can also bring your role playing characters to PvP, to test out your characters strengths and weaknesses. Guild vs Guild battles are possibly the most innovative PvP part of the game. After making or joining a guild, your guild can acquire its own island with a fortress. This fortress can then be equipped with various things, effectively turning it into a small town. During GvG, the battle is hosted at one of the guild's guild fortresses, which the other guild has to storm, and kill the guild leader. This type of gameplay is possibly the best PvP factor in the game, with trebuchets and explosive being used, archers and guardsmen lining the walls and plazas, and intense warfare.

Flaws: Only one flaw comes to mind, which is the low level cap. However, this forces you to try and use your character more wisely, as later on in the game the enemies you face will be lvl 24-32, making Elite skills a must-have.

Overall: Despite the low level cap, the graphics, storyline, gameplay and PvP options more than compensate, giving this game a rating of 10 out 10.

Comment: I have always said to myself that I wouldn't play WOW because I knew I would be putting so much money into something that would get me nowhere. So you're probabaly thinking what I'm going to say next is, "but when I found Guild Wars, everything changed!"

No.

Guild Wars is incredible, because its not really an RPG. Well, it is, but its more like Kingdom Hearts mixed with WOW and Spiderman 2, all of which you only pay 30 dollars for and then never again if you want.

The one thing no one ever seems to mention is that this game has CUT SCENES. Actual cut scenes with your party in them, that's why the character customization is limited, and it really isnt even that. The graphics are beautiful, the storyline brilliant, the action riviting. And when you finish the game, its not over, you just run around doing quests and getting more skills.

Okay, past this post if anyone mentions the level 20 cap, they havent read what Im about to say. Levels mean absolutely nothing in this game other than what you can defeat. This is not a grinding game, you do a handful of quests and mission, which have cutscenes, which is the only thing you have to center on, you level up as a result not by hard work. Sure, you can run around killing things, but if thats all you want do not play this game. This game has a point, and that is teaming up with people around you and completeing a mission. If that's not for you, go to WOW, go to Maple Story, heck, even go to crappy ol' Runescape, but for people who love games that accomplish a goal, get Guild Wars.

Comment: This is an amazing game. I rarely give out a score this high but this game deserves it. This is the only mmorpg that I have EVER seen that is NOT a grind-fest. It is way easier to level up in this game by doing quests rather than killing monsters since the higher the level the less experience you get from monsters. A lot of people think that the level 20 gap is bad but I think it is a good idea. If the main level was 100 and you are level 1 it seems so far away but with the max level being 20 it actually seems achievable. The skills are great. My only complaint is the pvp for only one reason. If you are like me and only play prophecies then this is really annoying. What happens is that assassins and dervishes which are extremely strong and have great skills come over to prophecies and completely destroy everybody. This is the reason that I gave this game a 9 instead of a 10. If they fix this then the game is a definite 10. But for now I rate it 9/10. Great game especially since there is no monthly fees. Definitley try it!

First of all let me say and this is my honest opinion and a fact to boot that Guild Wars looks fantastic and a bit on the cartooney side which is a plus to those who like very in depth art and a great promise for constant rising potential. The sound is devine and is accompanied by a great assortment of skills, a fair community and a well put together PVP and PVE experience. Unlike the kill this come back and kill some more mentality such as games in the past like World of Warcraft and Supreme Destiny thrive on. This game allows flexability with quests that can be much more in depth then your casual RPG. So your probably wondering what is with the lower score? Well this game does have it's downsides such as a level 20 player cap which is very easy to obtain in about a week or two and for me about 1 to 2 days since I know my way around the map. Farming and grinding is implemented in this mmorpg as in every mmorpg but at least Guild Wars does it fairly well espically for new comers. Guild Wars is also a fantastic game for those who play a large variety of different mmorpgs as Guild Wars doesn't tend to absorb all your concentration and time just to make it to that well deserved level up. Again this is where World of Warcraft fails to achieve anything remotely close to a real rpg experience. Several great aspects in this MMORPG espically include the large array of NPC henchman that you can take to battle, but do not expect them to be almighty as their AI is no better then that of an SCV in starcraft. If you have a high-end computer you can experience Guild Wars at all of its glory at over 6x AA and over 8x AF. Now another terrible downside that plagues Guild Wars is the linear objectives that supress the entertainment when you first begin your exploration in the land of GW. Linear to put it simply is Guild Wars motive but once you reach a certain level and have explored enough you will notice getting around and free roaming becomes less transparent and the real fun begins. Leaving town is remarkable, mainly due to the fact that if you kill a monster you don't have to worry about that certain newb stealing all of your loot because parties are assembled before you leave town and whatever area/zone you enter becomes your own. As for my finishing statement I'd just like to say that GW is a fanatastic game and if it were more open-ended it would be a destined legend of it's time aswell as a instant classic.

Comment: This game is brilliant. Great game play and is classed to have the best PvP ever. I might be annoying that the level cap is 20 but when the new guild wars game (Guild Wars 2 coming in 2008) the level cap should be increased to lvl 100. Ive played this game for over 14 months and I still get excitment. If you get bored of this game as you've completed the games already you just have to challenge yourself through the map by soling certain maps. Great Game!

Comment: GW is a GOOD game but not the best i"d ever played. It"s one of those games you would enjoy for like a few months and get bored of. But during the first few months of playing you"ll have fun with it. There are Quests, Missions, Guild vs Guild, Alliance Battle (if you have Factions), and a huge world setting for you to explore.

GW also has it"s uniqueness, unlike Diablo II, Dungeon Siege, NWN, and other good rpg games your character"s stregnth and power rely soley on skills. You don"t just walk around and hack and slash your enemies or cast random magic spells. You need a systematic sets of skills, sometimes they serve as a chain reaction. If you have the right skills in the right order or use them in the right time then you"re character would be considered decent. If you use crappy skills and have no timing whatsoever and at times not having them in the right order you"ll be disorganized and your character would basically stink.

Other than character development the Guild is the most essential theme of Guild Wars. Joining the Guild maybe hard at first if you"re really new, but if you get lucky someone may recruit you into their guild. Joining the Guild maybe easy, but finding the good, decent, cooperating guild is hard. Most guild"s have problems these days, it"s usually players within the Guild being inactive for couple weeks, being on and off sporadically, and people not helping you because they are concern with their own affairs. If you participate Guild vs Guild or AB you"ll have lots of fun if you win now and then. If you keep losing you"ll easily lose hope and leave the Guild. So joining the right guild is important to your entertainment or else if you join a losing guild then you won"t have any fun.

Owning a Guild is a different story. I was a leader of my Guild for a while until I had to hand it to another friend of mine. The problem of the guild is that many members are usually inactive for a few days. It may not sound so bad but when you actually run a Guild it gets pretty annoying. You NEED people in order to run a guild. Officers from my experience are most likely to be on everyday only if you promote the RIGHT ONES. Getting people into your guild will be hard. Most people who join will be newbs since your Guild is new, no veterans or experienced players would want to join. It"s not rare but it"s hard to get experienced players. Since most people are in a guild already recruiting will be hard. However the good side of having a Guild maybe community if your manage to make a Good guild. Having your guild participate Alliance Battle and Guild vs Guild can be pretty fun. The problem with this is that winning Guild vs Guild can be pretty hard if your Guild is inexperienced and new. To be owned by another guild is something not to stress about but noobs take is so seriously that doing another Guild vs Guild is going to be hard since you need people People in your guild will mostly do PVE or Player vs Environment on their own. Because of this it"s hard to manage the guild without the cooperation of your people. If you do not have cooperation you do not have a good guild, that"s all I have to say about being leader of the Guild.

Problems of Guild wars seem to weigh more than the pros. The marketing or buying armors and weapons can be pretty annoying and frustrating. Unlike Diablo II and other rpg games you to go to a crafter and have weapons and armors crafted. You need materials and rare materials in order to have the weapons and armors crafted. Buying materials or finding them, including rare materials can be hard. Rare materials cost A LOT, buying enough of them to get a set of armors is a ridiculous amount of price. You have to understand that in Guild Wars accumulating gold is not all too easy like in Diablo II. If you sell your items to an NPC merchant they buy it for a really cheap price which is not a very good profit. Selling them to players is better but it takes times since players are humans and they have to decide whether they want your products or not.

The variety of weapons and armors are very low compare to other RPG games i"d played. Finding a special weapons with magic is hard, at least from my experience. You won"t be finding a cool looking weapon lying on a ground next to a corpse of a giant because it"s rare. You will find good weapons now and then but usually they"re not always what you want. You also will NEVER find armors lying on a ground you have to buy them.

Doing missions and quest in a party is fun if you have friend with you rather than henchmen who are incapable of doing certain things that a normal player would do. Playing with other players is fun but when you do a quest and mission they can log off right in the middle of it. That can occur many times, and when it happens it makes the mission and quest more difficult to achieve. The reward for quests are fair in terms of experiene but poor in terms of money. usually the highest reward for gold would be 500 gold. If you play the expansion GWEN (Guild Wards Eye of the North) the reward there can be 1000 gold. Quests are fun when you first play them but they get redundant in the end. There"s not enough creativity to it.

In conclusion of this very long essay of GW, I say Guild wars is a good and decent game. The graphic is good, the game play is good, and basically everything is good but not great or bad. It"s hard to control a guild, it"s extremely inconvenient to to buy weapons and armors, and being with a party can be a pain in the A$$ when people leave right in the middle of a mission. The Game has both major and minor flaws, and it really can"t be fixed. So if you"re asking me, "So do you recommend this game?" I would say it really depends, me personally I liked this game but I eventually got bored of it. If you know what i"m talking about even though you never played this game then don"t waste your money.

Comment: its a pretty good game. But id say WoW is better. I have played guild wars when it came out and got bored of it pretty quick. Then i switched to WoW and got addicted. This game has better graphics, and is free, but thats about it. EVerything else about WoW is beter. ITs more fun and has more stuff to do. Theres more player interaction and it doesnt get old in about an hour.

Comment: i played this game for 6 months and had some awsome lvl 20 characters that were great. But then i bought wow and guild wars sort of transformed into a turd on the ground. I realized that there were mmorpgs that were much much better out there. Though if you are on a budget then i would reccomend guild wars. The main complaint i have with guild wars is the none seamless world and how nobody else except you and your party are in the world that are players. The pvp combat in guild wars is top noch and is great and competetive. But the story and pve and stuff is a nightmare to bad it makes up 80%-90% of the game. the reason the pve isnt any good is the work of the private world your in and how its not seamless. Then again it is nice to put your nice roleplaying character to the test in pvp but the truth is its still not worth it. Another complaint is there is not manay weapon and armor types at all. I did own guild wars factions also this added quite a bit of well the same old pve combat and some great pvp combat. I hope that people will listen to what i say and make the right choice on which mmorpg your going to buy!

You dont need a map with all the people, how ever many, you get your own area to farm, kill monsters, level, etc. The guilds was a fantastic Idea. I totaly love the one im in, and an officer of! Also, PvE, PvP, GvG,AvA, and all of the of the verses modes, I gotta say, keep it up Guild Wars!

I've gotta say though Guild wars is by far the best. First off, WOW is a great game..i have a lvl 70 i love it but there is absolutly no story which sucks. FFXI i couldnt find a group and everyone spoke japanese...quit at lvl 40. Runescape i played back in like 5th grade hahaa horrible graphics, community, and gameplay...dont play it. Guild wars is the best game out there, the graphics are crazy good, free to play, great story, great pvp and pve its just simply the best

Comment: Well this game just rocks, peroid. Everything about it is awesome, graphics, gameplay, PvP, endgame missions (my guild leader has a level 20 character and he's been working on the final mission for months and still isn't done), all better than WoW. Plus it's free, so why play WoW when it costs $150 appx. to play it for 10 months when you can spend $30 on Guild Wars and play forever!

And to the person who asked th questions:
1. 20, but the endgame is huge and it takes quite a while to level.

2. Nightfall, has a great story, all of the core professions plus Dervish (nobody cares about paragon). Prophecies is fun too, but Factions is WAY too short and easy.

3. You can make guilds and alliances (groups of guilds)

4. Read this list and find your favorite type of character, the profession ideal for you will be next to it.

DD: Mesmer, Elementalist, Dervish
Tank: Warrior
Ranged Attacks: Ranger
Healer: Monk
Evil magic/health stealing: Necromancer

2nd Question - Which game do you recomend, i buy? Guild Wars Prophecies, Nightfall or Factions?

3rd Question - Can you only make guilds? Or can you make anything else??

4th Question - Whats the best Primary Profession?

Comment: Guild Wars is simply an excellent game, excellent, but not exactly perfect. I bought Guild Wars when it was new in stores, but didn"t have a chance to play it for awhile as my computer was horrible at the time. But when I was given the chance to play it for 5 minutes I was excited and amazed.... At that time I was pretty new to MMO"s and this was the best graphics out of most games i"ve played up till then, so I was very impressed. After playing the game for month after month it does get old, and I did stop playing after... a year, but I still do play and I own all the games in the series so far....well thats my opinion and heres some other junk that might be useful to people who may be hesitant about considering this game.

Guild Wars Boasts:
Incredible graphics that rival alot of recent console games.
Free online play with no monthly subscription
A pretty good helpful community (except for me, im a jerk muahahah)
Awesome orchestratic soundtrack
Tons of interesting skills and classes
A character customization process that offers many more choices than a great deal of other MMOs

Guild Wars Lacks:
Varied gameplay, all you do is kill things (though it still manages to look different)
hmmm... i cant think of anything else,
though the unvaried gameplay is a great flaw, because after awhile, it will just seem like your doing the same things, over and over again(especially when you"ve already played dozens of other MMO"s).

-Beautiful rendered graphics
-Great Animation
-Lag, I hear good, but I don't get any
-Players, well, they're alright
-Cost, great, only a one time buy (and that's just to get the game and no monthly fees)

I'd play it but stopped because I use my time to create my own games and not just play others, but I still take breaks and have a little bit more fun. This game is great/good on fun compared to most.

Comment: As a regular game reviewer and a regular MMORPG player, i found myself immersed in this gaming world, from the opening cinematics to the grouping up to fight in the catacombs, in a short paragraph Guild Wars is the best free MMORPG available to you.

I brought this game two weeks ago, with an idea that all the fuss was going to be for nothing, and this would just be a regular, run of the mill MMORPG. But, oh, how i was wrong. This MMORPG features thousands skills, magic abilities and like it says, eye-popping graphics, a stunning fighting system, great monsters and a stunning story-line which will make you immersed in the glory that is 'Guild Wars'.

Graphics - 10

Weapons and armour - 10 (Thousands of items available to players)

General Gameplay - 10

The graphics are amazing, and the combat is kind of straightforward, but all in all a great game.

Magic is detailed. Combat is detailed. The guild system is VERY detailed. Hell, you can even personalize your own armor.

If you like free to play games, this is one you HAVE TO OWN. It's tons better than all free to play MMOs.

for those of you who think this game gets absolutely boring, i"d say you either cant think fast enough to react to whats happening or you just straight up stink at games.

if you like fps but not rpgs, this game will definitely be the silver bullet.

for those of you who like WoW... you might as well play runescape cuse its free and theres just as much fun (not much at all to be exact) as WoW.

Comment: The thing I love the most about Guild Wars is this: It actually discourages going out for hours upon hours and mindlessly grinding away to get to the next level. Quests can be done easily for the most part and are fun. Since quests often give spells and experience as rewards, you can level up off of them and get stronger for when you DO want to go out and grind.

Also great about this game are the graphics, they are without doubt the most amazing of any free MMORPG I've seen to date. You can really enjoy watching your enemies' heads explode, whereas in other games you'd sit there wondering what is going on as you stare at a strange shape slightly resembling a person.

While some pay-to-play games like WoW are paper-thin on their story, Guild Wars has a deep, involving story that I simply love.

An EXCELLENT addition to this game is that whenever you enter a combat area, it generates a private copy of the world for you and your party. This is awesome because there's no more competition for the big enemy that drops the new uber sword you've been wanting.

The guild system is also AMAZING, each guild gets a guild hall, which is like a base, that their members can access to hang out, meet up for quests, and much more. A variety of NPCs can be added the guild halls to make them a sort of convenience store. I'm told that guild vs. guild combat is very fun, but I haven't been in a big enough guild to do it yet (I guess that's the downside of preferring small, friendly guilds).

The PVP system is also great, allowing players to create PVP-only characters that start out at level 20 (level cap). Oh, and dont worry about the level cap being so low. It takes quite a while to level up.

And finally we come to the games only real flaw: The limited equipment. The game is teeming with weapons of all sorts of customizations, but certain classes suffer from a very limited selection of armor. Elementalist is a shining example of this. It is VERY frequent that you will see a Lvl20 Elementalist wearing an armor set that is easily obtained at level 7-8. While some classes have a TON of armor, others don't. This is irritating for some players becase most people think that their L337 Lvl20 character should have really awesome armor. But there is an easy fix to this issue: buy an expansion pack. Each expansion adds a heap of new gear to most classes.

So my opinion is that this is BY FAR the best free MMORPG on the market. Try for yourself, what have you got to lose? It's only $30.

PVE:8/10 Pretty good. But there's something lacking. Maybe its cuz i just don't like pve in general.
Overall: 9/10 There are some bad parts but all is forgiven because they are to be expected in all mmorpgs.

Comment: Comes close to the best MMO out there.

Graphics-9
Wounderful. The enviroments are so beautiful. Spells are colourful and bright. Tesxtures and the players are awesome to.

Gameplay- 9
IS awesome. Battling takes a long time to get bored of. New skill, quests. The story is wonderful, though not complete. (Though will be soon when the first expansion comes out)
New monsters at every new area. These provide a new challenge and a new type of build.

PvP - 10
Is prob what guild wars is most famous for. It is great. You can battle others any time in random arenas. Team arenas are basically randoms but you can make teams. Halls is a big scale battle with 8v8 (though as been 6v6, programers are trying to decide which is better)
Guild battles are 8v8 and are great fun.

Sound+Music-9
Music is nice. Suits the enviroment well. Can get sick of it though after 6 months or so of playing...

Community-8
It's very nice, there are a few chilren who spam. And local big towns will have WTS WTS everywhere. But people are usally nice. Guilds are the peek of the community. Its what makes it fun and soicable. not only can you be in a guild but a alliance to. (which doesnt really effect you unless you have factions)

Overall - 9
Alot of things great about this game. WoW fans or fans of grinding and becoming the top by pure power might not like this. Its more about smarts and setting yoru skills right. There isn't any LeeT items. Your build and skills is the only Leet thing (you can have 8 skills)
Other then that this game will laast you about 6 months, then you might feel a lil bored so getting the next chapter is a good option

Comment: jankywank what are you talking about? If this game is overated garbage why do 85% of the people who play the game love it? I do not think it is overated, and they have fixed most ofthe error's in game.

Overall here is my rating,
Graphic's 10-Nice- Have seen better in previous games like EVE online but this is great if you are one of the people who don't think it is necissary to pay 15$ a mounth, which I think is robbery to begin with.

Sound-8-good- Iv'e seen better in the time i have been gaming but it's still a thriller to hear, hehe, they need to work on the spell sounds.

Community-NICE-Impressed here with the community, its not hard to get exepted into a guild You just need to make sure its a good one.

NOTE: Like all games it has the LEET 1337 kids that talk trash to people, if you have ventrilo teamspeak or Xfire you will hear them on the mic or randomly PMing you. There is also a issue of them begging for free item's or help when this game has a lvl 20 cap.

Comment: Personally, this is the best MMORPG, or actually game in general that I"ve ever played.
--------------------------------------------------
Content 10/10

This game has a very-long campaign with hundreds of quests. Plus, you can get expansions with new proffessions and more campaigns. There are also many missions with bonuses. There are main places that play major roles in the storyline, as well as outposts outside major regions. You can always explore and find places. There are many things to get. Tons of monsters, though a lot of repeated and recolored images. Several different animals for rangers to tame.
--------------------------------------------------
Gameplay 10/10
The battling is the thing that really is good. 6 professions in Prophecies(Original) and 2 more each in all others except Eye of The North (selling holidays of 2007.) There are hundreds of skills. You can also have a secondary proffesion. You have a primary attribute only if you a primary of a class. So like A Ranger/Monk has Expertise (Ranger Primary Attribute) but doesnt have Divine Favor. But you get skills of the secondary added to yours. There is also no force of Soloing or going with players. You can bring players of henchman, (weak though they may be,) (or heroes if you have Nightfall). Plus, you can upgrade your armor with Runes and Insignias. You can also upgrade weapons with the specific Item, as well as find ubgraded ones from foes. You can get skills for battle from quests and skill trainers. You get skill points and stat points from leveling up.
--------------------------------------------------
Trade 6.5/10
The Game isnt focused much on trade or tradeskills. There is still value of money to buy things like armor, weapons and useless things like Ale or Candy.
--------------------------------------------------
Socialability 8/10
You can go into Guilds with people, hench the name Guild Wars. You only are with people in cites, towns, mission areas and outposts. You are only with your party other places.
--------------------------------------------------
Graphics 10/10
The graphics are just unbelieveable! They are personally better than any other game in existance.
--------------------------------------------------Sound&Music 9/10
The sound definantly fits what happens yet the music isnt much varying or battling much. It"s still pretty good.
--------------------------------------------------
Pvp 10/10
The PvP is more a game of quick thinking strategy than who has better stuff like in Runescape or other games. The PvP is only good if your lvl 20 usally. You can also make an automatically lvl 20 Pvp only character with totally customizxable armor.

Overal 63/70

Comment: Terrible

This game is the biggest peice of overrated garbage I have ever had the misfortune to try. Thank god I was using a friends account.

If you like flashy automatic movies, lack of game play, and pretending that Pawnzoring people with worst internet connections than you makes you speical then this game is for you.

If on the other hand you are looking for a game with you know... content then you may want to buy a diffrent game. Not only is this game repetitive but you can get through all the content in a day or so.

You have to give it to them though. They made a game you could program on a graphing calulator and passed off the lack of content as a bonus. "Hey you don"t have to grind! ... you can... um... i don"t know. Maybe like attack each other or something?"

This game is like City of Heroes meets Counterstrike minus the fun.

Comment: Guild wars was great, this guy makes it sound like its easy, eben though he probably doesnt have the most expensive weapons in the game, in fact 500k isnt all that great, there is cooler armor taht is always there and is very hard to get, efter you reach level 20 alot of it is farming and getting cooler looking armor and weapons, and joning a guild makes this VERY fun. There is also guild versus guild which is very fun, and pvp.

Sure ... it gets repetitive, but so does every MMORPG, so calling it repetitive is a lame excuse for being a moron with stupid opinions.

Comment: I give this game an 7, i use to play it everyday, but after making 5 characters all level 20 with maxed out weapons and gear and minipets and having over 500k gold, the game gets boring. Even with all that gold i have, all i can do is just flaunt what i have, i still have items as good as someone with 50k gold and blue normal items you get from quest.

PvE was fun and interesting in the beggining, but just got boring and repetitive in the end. I also hate it once i leave the town, its just me and my party againts the world. I dont feel like its a social thing.

The guilds are a good idea if you could actually find a GOOD GUILD, that was interactive. If you found one, you are lucky, but many times i would join a guild with lots of members but none of them would be willing to help me doing a mission or would want to go pvp with me. Everyone had their own agenda.

My favorite thing of this game was the PVP because it was nothing like ive seen before. Unlike games like d2, where it matted on how high leveled you were and how godly your gear was, Guidl wars is different where its all about strategy. In my opinion, guild wars is the new way to play chess.

So in conclusion, PvE not social enough. The market is bad, once your rich all you do with all that extra money is just try to flaunt it and look cool. And the pvp is great.
Community is good if you can find a GOOD guild

Comment: guild wars was fun at first... i loved the combat the monsters the quests..just a fun game...but the farther i progressed through the more boring it got..it was fun to play with small groups of 4 but then the amount of people to group with increased and it just got to hard to find a good group or to even find people to group with...the pvp was fun but got a little repetitive. i'd have to say what really bothered me was the whole map being instanced thing.i only played guildwars for about 2 and a half weeks before i got to 20 and quit.... the graphics are awesome but overall i was disappointed .i must admit though it had its moments.

Comment: Decent game, but still lacks a lot. First of all i'd like to point out to everyone that this game isn't really an MMO. Pvp gets way too repetitive. The linear storyline is really stupid, if you go back to a city you just went to the storyline rewinds, and yes i'm being serious. The marketing strategy is really starting to piss me off, i mean the game really isn't free. The character development is good, but the physical appereance system isn't good. But on the up side it's graphics are top notch, the gameplay is great, and community is good. I give this game a 6

Comment: Guild Wars is the best MMORPG without subsciption fees at this moment in time. There for It is unfair to compare this to a game such as World of warcraft requires a $15 a month subscription.

Story
It has a huge story experience, that has a time line that effects the world you play in as you progress through it, it reminded me of the books you have as a child where you pick the route you take by jumping pages, but you will end up at the same conclusion :P.

PvP
A pvp system thats worthy of mention many different classes with interesting abilities meet in a battleground where five fight five to the death. I enjoyed this as you can gain a small ammount of experience doing this.rather than feeling like a sub game for when you get bored.

Now the bad points
lag is an issue and unfortunately as soon as you leave the towns you will not see another player unless grouped as you are basically entering an "instance" (in world of warcraft terms).
Yes it does lack some content in terms of character control and social interaction but not enough to hinder it when standing on the "no online subscription" leg.
