Comment: The use of AJAX gives this game a refreshing feel compared to static text and images in a lot of PBBGs - the gameplay reminds me of the old Ultima titles, big fun.

Comment: One part text-adventure and one part turn-based strategy, of all the browser-based games that I"ve played, Pioneers of Aethora is one that continues to hold my attention and sap my free-time.

The game seems geared toward casual play. Since battles are turn-based, one can sneak a quick turn in and return to finish the battle at a later point in time.

The mechanics are straight-forward. Use weapon combinations to access certain actions to use in battle. Then use those actions to weaken an enemy"s defenses and finally move in for the kill.

The interface and graphics may seem minimalistic, but they work. I think the designer has done an excellent job of embracing AJAX and applying it to a game.

The setting and story are a refreshing change of pace from the generic fantasy or space realm that most browser-based games seem to have fallen into.

It is still undergoing development with balance tweaks and new missions being implemented, but the developer has been regularly informing the community of pending changes and has been listening to suggestions.
