Comment: You can only compete with your type (player who spend / poor people).

Iris is one of time and the most amazing gameplay mmorpg I know. However m the story can be better.

Comment: I really liked Iris Online. Too bad the CS ruined it. D':
You will have fun until level 30, 35 at most. You get the option to go to a first open PvP area at level 30. Basically, you can level up without ever going in there, but you'll have to spend a lot of time grinding and repeating quests. That's too boring, trust me. You could try going in that PK zone alone, but chances are small you won't be attacked. The best thing you can do if you wanna quest there is to find a party and do quests together.
PK maps aren't that big of a problem; they are annoying, but it's the CS that is the biggest con of Iris. An average non-paying user has no chance against the CSer of the same level. If you don't put in some $$, you won't be able to enchant anything past +5, plus there are costumes that add % of HP and MP, and also some things that enable you to fill up your gear with the best cards that add even more HP.. CS mounts are also way faster than normal mounts, not to mention all the thingys that boost your EXP/SP gain..
You'll have a very hard time leveling past 40 if you're not spending money in game's item mall. I made it only to level 42, then quit after I had several items broken cause of unsuccessful enchantment. And you do need better gear at this point.
It does have nice graphics, classes, dungeons, mounts - but I wouldn't recommend you this one unless you're willing to pay for stuff here and there. That is kind of sad, cause Iris has potential to be a really good free MMORPG, if only gpotato would fix the imbalance.

Comment: This is a tought one to review for me, because the PvE content would earn this game an 8, and when they get done implementing all of the features, maybe even a 9. It's a game with a lot of potential.

But here's the thing. There are open PK maps in Iris. Some will say that you never have to go in them if you don't want to, but as you play the game you'll find you'll miss the very good exp available there and also the unique itmes that only drop in those maps. This wouldn't be an issue except that the enhancing feature gives huge bonuses to items, so a +10 weapon will have greater bonus damage than it does base damage. Actually, I think the bonus becomes higher than base at +7 or +8. Of course, to enhance that high you have to buy protection scrolls from the Cash Shop, a lot of them, and they aren't cheap, so it's not like it's only twenty dollars.

You can, of course, just grind and grind and grind for gold and try to get the uber gear that way, by buying it in the Auction House (if you're lucky enough to find it there), but that's quite a grind we're talking about.

Sadly, Iris Online has become Pay to Win. You'll be able to get hit the level cap without paying, but you'll have no fun at all being two hit in PvP. It's a real shame, because this game had so much going for it, but that's the direction the company decided to go.

So, if you're willing to spend a good amount of money, this game is an 8 with the potential to become a 9. If you're not, you'll still have fun for a while, but as you get above level 40 or so, you'll start realizing that you're not going to be able to compete with others unless you drop some scratch in the Cash Shop.
