GameOgre.com has not done one of these articles yet, so here is the very first one! Without going too nuts on the predictions, going to keep it within certain parameters such as the best giveaways, the best online game for the whole year, the most popular genre of 2019, the genre that will rise the most during the year, and the new games that should be the most successful during the year.

The Best Giveaways

Giveaways for players continue to evolve as they are usually well received when coming from MMORPGS, mobile games, MOBAs, and Battle Royales. These giveaways usually range from potions to free NPCs to a bonus code 2019 to free in-game currency. In 2019, look for Battle Royal freebies to improve as that genre will likely get even more saturated and new games will look to stand out from the crowd.

The Top Online Game for 2019

Fortnite – Although Battle Royals may not continue their breathtaking pace with an abundance of choices now, Fortnite is in good position to repeat. The only other good possibility would be a clear strong leader in Virtual Reality.

The Most Popular Genre

Battle Royals will likely maintain their status as the hottest genre for at least one more year. However, expect more innovation within the genre as substantially more games are looking for a piece of the pie now. There will not likely be a Battle Royal to surpass Fortnite or PUBG unless it is on a different format like mobile.

The Biggest Rise in Genres

Virtual Reality continues to gain acceptance from both players and hardware makers. Since it takes a significant investment to get set up for VR gaming, the genre still has a ways to go yet. VR also currently lacks a killer app aka a true blockbuster game like PUBG was to Battle Royals.

The Most Successful New Release Games

Here is a trio of games that could make a considerable amount of noise in 2019:

  1. Anthem could be a huge success when the loot-based shooter launches on February 22, 2019 as it could be the mighty Bioware’s last game.
  2. Shenmue III has to be one of the most anticipated games of all time due to both the Kickstarter for the game and the time since the franchise seemingly bit the dust for good when the Dreamcast was axed back in 2001.
  3. Cyberpunk 2077 is the wild card here as it may not release in 2019. If it does in good working order, you could be looking at the hit game of the year.
