Are you a mobile gamer looking for a nostalgic MMO experience? If you are, then the latest version of Old School RuneScape by Jagex is something you should consider downloading. Like any other MMORPG game, money is essential if you want to make it through the first levels of the game.

Before delving deeper into this guide, it is worth noting that there are a couple of things every new player needs to know. This guide is for free-to-play players – that is, players who have less access to quests, skills, and content that’s only available to players who pay for subscriptions.

Apart from having lesser content because of using a free account and Jagex’s limited access to Grand Exchange (a marketplace where money is made for these methods), free players will need seven quest points (which players receive once they complete different tasks given by NPCs) or have their accounts active for at least 24-hours before they can have access to the Grand Exchange.

Furthermore, it is worth noting that you may have to crowd some resources with gold farmers, something that may lead to competition resulting in slower or fewer gains overall.

Let us get choppy!

This game is all about chopping wood.

Once you have completed your tutorial, your next stop should be the Grand Exchange that is situated to the northwest of Varrock and North of Lumbridge. At the Grand Exchange, you can buy an iron axe, which costs about 25 gold, or you could opt to keep the bronze axe you received during the tutorial. With your ax in hand, head anywhere you like and start chopping.

A single log can sell for up to 50 gold, but the most important thing is that you level up your woodcutting level. The more trees you cut, the more experience points you get for your skill. As you level up, different types of trees and more axes become available.

When you reach level 15, you will be able to access the Mithril ax, which allows you to chop much faster and to cut down oak trees. Felled oak trees provide more than one log, allowing you to make more money. At level 41, you get the rune ax, the fastest chopping ax available. Keep chopping and selling to get gold rolling in and if not try

DO NOT waste your mines!

Mining, just like Woodcutting, is another skill that is available at low levels and can help you earn tons of gold safely and easily.

There is a mine south of the city of Varrock where players can hone their mining skill. And like Woodcutting, improve your pickaxe to continue leveling up. Your goal should be to reach level 15 where Iron ore becomes available for mining. A piece of iron ore will sell for about 138 gold and could translate to good money.

Mooo-ve in for the kill

Are you a bloodthirsty freak? If you have bloodlust you want to satisfy in Old School Runescape, here is what you need to know. Cows are just level two and do very minimal damage. They’re also just north of your starting point Lumbridge. Every cow you kill drops a cowhide.

Rack up a nice stack of several hundred cowhides and take them to Al Kharid, east of Lumbridge, which you can reach by completing Prince Ali’s rescue quest, or paying a toll at the gate. Once in Al Kharid, look for Ellis the tanner who will turn your hides to hard leather for three gold a hide.

Hard leather can sell for up to 138 gold.

Flip out

As with any MMORPG, flipping items (buying items for one price, then selling them at the Grand Exchange for a much higher price) in the marketplace is a common tradition.

The great thing is that there are several online databases such as GE Tracker, that show the current prices on Old School RuneScape. To make good money flipping on Old School RuneScape, you will need enough money to start with, do some research, and some trial and error. When you eventually find the right items, rest assured the gold will start flowing in.

There are several other ways you can make gold on the game, but the methods listed here are less risky and aren’t huge timesinks. These methods are quite easy and are perfect for newcomers to make gold on OSRS.

  1. An extremely helpful article for free players. After reading this, even I’m considering the latest Jagex version of Old School RuneScape.
