Exploration is one of the most exciting elements of Minecraft. The seemingly infinite world stretching out before you with all its beautiful biomes. The sprawling underground caves to mine for their many riches. The beautiful wildlife to tame and horrific creatures to fight.

But once you’ve played Minecraft as much as I have, which is a lot, you’ve most likely seen everything there is to see and completed The End more times than you can count. So now it’s time to turn your attention towards the various custom game modes that are available.

One of the best exploration survival modes out there is Skyblock. You may have heard of the Skyblock before. But what exactly is it? And what are the best Skyblock servers out there? Stick with us as we walk you through the Skyblock basics and present a list of live and working skyblock servers for minecraft.

Skyblock Mode

Created way back around the time of the official release of Minecraft, Skyblock is one of the most popular custom modes out there. The premise is simple. You spawn on a small floating island with limited access to resources. The rest of the map is made up of different floating islands which you have to reach to survive.

The game invites you to challenge yourself to find creative new ways to scavenge for resources and to venture off your starting island. You need to make use of the Nether and various advanced harvesting techniques.

Skyblock can be played as a single player experience but the mode is most fun when played with others. Below we have listed some of the best Skyblock servers out there.

Opblocks

One of the most popular servers currently online, Opblocks has been running for years now and has full bedrock support included. The server often has concurrent player counts of over 2000. The best thing about the Opblocks server is that it doesn’t just run Skyblock, but a large number of popular custom game modes such as Pixelmon and Prison.

Foxcraft

If you are looking for a server that only runs custom survival modes, then Foxcraft is the one for you. The server has been running since 2011 and has a loyal playerbase. While the server does not have the biggest concurrent player base, those who are on it are welcoming and friendly.

The server runs an impressive list of game modes, including Skyblock. It also runs the popular Oneblocks and Kingdom modes, as well as sometimes dipping back into the classic Minecraft survival mode.

Penguin.GG

A fairly new server that is making waves in the Minecraft server community. Penguin.GG is, at the moment, a Skyblock only server, making it ideal for anyone looking for pure Skyblock action. The server host also runs a Twitch stream of his server regularly offering players the chance to join in on streaming events and even help boost their own Twitch following.

The best thing about Penguin.GG is that it is still building a following. So the servers are rarely full at the moment ensuring you always have the chance to game. And it’s a satisfying feeling being a part of an emerging multiplayer community.

Herobrine.Org

Named after the most infamous creepypasta story about a supernatural entity haunting people’s Minecraft clients, Herobrine.org is an up and coming server that offers a huge number of game modes, including Skyblock. The server also runs more competitive game modes such as Bed wars and Sky wars.

Despite the name the server doesn’t actually feature anything spooky. It is completely family friendly. So if you’re hoping to go monster hunting, this isn’t the server for you.

Complex Gaming

Complex Gaming is a collection of servers running a large number of game modes. They mainly focus on running an advanced Pixelmon server. They run a large number of mods on this to enhance the experience. They also have dedicated Skyblock servers. Some that are running mods and some that are just the vanilla Skyblock experience.

For those looking to play some classic survival multiplayer, Complex Gaming also has some vanilla survival servers running.
