What should the first colony on another planet be called?

    I would name a colony Jamestown, to represent the first settled colony in the States :)

    Seeing as many of the locations people would settle already have names, I'd like settlements to have names that actually went with those rather than inheriting their naming significance from elsewhere (since they already did). That does however make figuring out the name for the first one a bit harder, since a first settlement location would have to be decided first.

    That does lead to a good idea though. I'll settle on a planet, and rename it p. The continent or local geographical area? Also p. The settlement itself will be called p.

    New idea! I think we could call the first colony on another planet "New San Fernando" to honor the first colony (I think) ever created. Formed in 1104 BC by Phoenicia (maybe), it was the first instance of a colonial empire.



    DISCLAIMER: "San Fernando" is just the location of where to colony was settled. The colony was (most likely) not named San Fernando and (might) not have even been a colony.
