I think that good game music is also important in a game. It adds that little bit extra oompf to a game ...

I've come up with a list of good and bad game music composers and/or games that have good or bad music.

    BEST
Jeff van Dyck (country: Canada; work: Shogun Total War, Medieval Total War, Rome Total War)
John Williams (country: United States; work: Star Wars)
Kenji Kawai (country: Japan; work: Nobunaga's Ambition)
Yoko Kanno (country: Japan; work: Nobunaga's Ambition)
Tijs Michiel Verwest (country: Netherlands; work: Alone in the Dark)
Robert L. Euvino (country: United Kingdom?; work: Caesar3, Stronghold)
James Horner (country: United States; work: Braveheart)
Henry Beckett (country: United States; work: Pharaoh)
Dimitriy Dyachenko (country: Ukraine?; work: American Conquest)
Maciej Pawlowski (country: Poland; work: Earth2150)

    WORST
    Yanco (country: ???; work: Patrician2, Patrician3)
Roger Briggs (country: ???; work: Civilization3)
Mark Cromer (country: ???; work: Civilization3)
Paul Wilkinson (country: ???; work: SimCity3000)
Celso Alberti et al. (country: ???; work: The Sims)

    notes:
-Maciej Pawlowski makes good music with his co-composer, but the game earth2150 isn't that great to my opinion, it suffers from bugs and a sluggish mouse, also the game concept isn't original.
-Yanco's music isn't exactly that bad, but the music is mediocre for what is a game concept ideally suited for good music.
-About Civ3's music... please tell me your cat jumped on the keyboard and the dog ate your notes.
-Maxis later bought by EA games, which in turn was bought by Vivendi, not only have a terrible Q&A and support department, but also a terrible taste in music. Good Yazz shouldn't be that hard to find and yet they failed miserably in my opinion.
-In vast contrast to Maxis is Koei, this game studio always gets the best game music.
-Jeff van Dyck, John Williams, Tijs Michiel Verwest and Kenji Kawai are the greatest, literally anything these guys touch turns to gold... they are excellent

So what game do you think has good game music?

Usually I like something that fits the game atmosphere. For example Rome Total War had great music

The Still Alive song in Mirror's Edge is great! It's by Lisa Miskovsky

Oh yeah, and the "Eyes on Me" song in Final Fantasy VIII is awesome as well! Dunno who it's by though.

I agree, the Final fantasy music is so relaxing and tranquil. I just love it.

However, I actually love the music in other games, such as a game called Ninety Nine Nights, the Tekken series, Dynasty Warriors and the like. The ancient style combat music is amazing.

Actually, you could technically say any popular song, because most of the more popular songs appear in the Guitar Heroes, Rock Bands, and DJ Hero.

    That's why I listen to Spotify ;)

Is it still not available in the US?

And I still maintain my original choice of FF8 having the best music ever.
