I think its like "RPG Maker VX". But like I said, it doesn't make much sense, and it doesn't give you much freedom.

About the free... I know that advertising and donations can bring in money even from a free game, but I want to give my game to Gameogre, and I want it to be free. Any other stuff can be sorted out by ogreman (though I do suggest using something like MegaUpload to host the download or similar).

And this big project is really just to get me to get used to typing in code and churning out results. And to get me used to drawing art.

Well, I'm not going into vector graphics if that's what you mean.

Oh wait, I get it. I'm making more detailed art, using GIMP.

Pixel Art is an art style:

I was just asking what art style, not what program :)

And that is way better than what I can do ^

I just read the Wikipedia entry. It seems it is an art style. I'm not sure whether I am or not, because I'm not editing each individual pixel, my art style is more akin to what someone who's come from drawing line drawings and pencil crayon drawings using a raster graphics software would do.

And I'm not sure whether to use 640 x 480 resolution or more. Ideally, I'd do it at 1280 x 768 at fullscreen because then it would work best on my computer (HAHA), but I don't think everyone has a widescreen monitor. What resolution is your screen at Quinn?

Wasn't talking about donations or advertising either.....

And that Pixel Art is like 10x the skill I have with GM...

I know. You can't even see the pixels in it!

awesome idea as always. I wish you the best of luck, though I reckon it will take you longer than 3 months (it always takes longer than expected).

btw... ogreland has a nice ring to it, I'd use that name

Yeah maybe... one of the large themes of the game will be that you play as one of the four nations.

I know, but I'm not going to make a REALLY lengthy game for each nation.

Can we see a sneak-peek at what the graphics look like, screenshot or something?

And are you making everything yourself or using online resources?

I'm mostly making everything myself, except I've got my friend making music, and I'm probably going to get sound effects off the internet, and my friend will also help me if I encounter any coding problems (he's more experienced than I).

I'll show you the art for one of the characters for the menu once I finish one, but that won't be for a while. I'll show you the tutorial level though once I finish that.

I've decided that I'm going to use some resources from Yoyogames, such as tile sets, because the art is taking up too much of my time.

I realised something last night. I'm learning programming by using Game Maker. My aim is to move on to C, or Python or similar. And I'm doing all this by making a huge game in Game Maker! I think that is a waste, so, I'm only going to make a small game using Game Maker, perhaps only the first level and the tutorial level or something. And I'll make my big game in C or Python or whatever.

That's a good plan, since the other languages are more useful anyways. I need to learn something non-browser based too...and java's super object oriented stuff hurts my brain. I will try Python!

If you do python, google "Pygame", it's an extension with some stuff for making games in it, I think it's mostly things to use graphics and stuff in python.
