MMO Game Closures

Disney announced today they are ending their partnership with Marvel Heroes, the game will be shutdown on all platforms on Dec. 31st, 2017. Sometime soon the game will be going completely F2P so players can enjoy the games last couple weeks.

 

Not really a fan of them launching the console version just months ago, encouraging people to spend money on it and then now shutting it down... but I guess that's the risk with online games. Maybe they didn't have a choice but it also sounds like the studio was a mess so who knows. I hope someone revisits Marvel ARPG tho, they make a good combo for a game.

 

Whelp the news just keeps getting worse for Marvel Heroes. Yesterday all the devs were let go and the game will now shutdown tomorrow. The devs won't be getting a severance and owed salary isn't gonna be paid out. Insurance is ending next week. Apparently the studio is bankrupt or more likely the high ups got theirs and everyone else has to deal with it. Feel bad for the devs.

 

According to a Microsoft Support Agent, Microsoft will be automatically refunding all Marvel Heroes purchases on Xbox One. Hold the applause until it's final (tho rumors were swirling last week already that they were considering it) but if true this is a great move by Xbox. Hopefully PlayStation will follow suit.

 

Wildstar is closing Nov. 28th. The developer, Carbine Studios is also being shutdown.

 

So not exactly a closure but Trion Worlds has been acquired by Gamigo. Then most of the staff was let go, some articles cite as few as 25 will be kept. Trion Worlds is best known for Rift. They also published ArcheAge in NA, an created Trove and Defiance. Supposedly all the games will continue though. Gamigo also owns Aeria Games.
