Here is how this is going to work:).

    1. Use Ogre Coins to buy real American stocks that can be easily tracked.
    2. The stocks (using the official ticker symbols) can be bought and sold here. The only difference is no commissions and you are trading Ogre Coins instead of real money. Thus, if you stocks go up, you make more Ogre Coins.
    3. When buying and selling, please say how many shares each time.
    4. May develop contests using this.
    5. Positions will be listed in this thread and can be tracked on sites like Yahoo Finance.
    6. You can invest in only the dollar equivalent of Ogre Coins that you currently have. For example, you could buy 20 shares of a $5 stock if you had 100 Ogre Coins.

    Stock Positions:

    Aaddron
25 shares of Nvidia (NVDA) at 20.97
25 shares of Microsoft (MSFT) at 41.21
50 shares of Red Hat (RHT) at 75.34

No replies yet? Today may be a good day to start buying as many stocks are down big right now. For example, SWKS (my best stock) is down 5 points just today. You could buy one share of it right now for 96 Ogre Coins:).

I have no idea how this works. :) So, do we look up stocks on google, then write how many stocks we would like to buy here or what? Kinda confused. :)

This is a neat, fun and educational idea Ogreman. But like Sle91 said how specifically does it work? Would we all have a little portfolio somewhere in our profile?

Basically, look up how the stock market works. Once you know how the stock market works, look up a company that trades on the New York stock exchange, see how much the shares are, decide how many shares you want to "purchase" with ogre coins, and decide for yourself when you want to sell them and/or purchase other stocks. Your portfolio is presumably tracked within this thread, though you can always keep track of it elsewhere.
You could also look up random things and buy random shares without knowing how the stock market works, I guess that's a valid strategy. It might even work better than trying to invest smartly, and at the end of the day it's your ogre coins, do what you want with them.

Yes, Aaddron has the right idea and Pure explained it more.

BTW, did you want to buy those stocks, Aaddron, or are you just making an example?

I thought I may have to buy some to show everybody and I still can, because I do have Ogre Coins:).

The best site to use is http://finance.yahoo.com/ for quotes etc.

Ok, you have bought them at the above prices:). Your Ogre Coins were subtracted the amount of the stocks.

When you want to sell, just say how many and I will look up the ticker for the closing price.

It's a game and a sort of a competition between ogres to see who would be the best stock trader. :) It's strictly for fun. Noone forces u to use your ogre coins in this way if u don't want to. :)

Its called investing:). If you pick a great stock for a low price, you could double or triple your Ogre Coins.

So far my stocks have been pretty steady, not making much but not losing either. All 3 are more long term stocks anyways, I think they will see an increase as time goes on.
