Yes! The best way to get better is just build. Look at what other people are doing to get ideas for how to use blocks differently but really just do, it'll come naturally.

Always have at least one stack of dirt in your inventory, for building walls or windows from outside, or decorations on highly levels. :)

You need to be creative to build, just think what would look good together. If you aren't creative than go on the internet and watch and than get some ideas, get something from one guy, something from someone other and than make your own building. gl

Maybe start off by building basic houses then go on from there?

Well it depends on what you're building, but the one thing that really would improve what you're building is knowing what you're trying to build by having plans in mind before actually building. For example, creating a foundation, knowing what blocks you need, sticking with one objective at a time, and having the right measurements would help.

Most people usually jump into building whatever they're building and make mistakes like building something too small or too big, incorrectly counting the number of blocks needed to keep some building even (especially when adding double doors), or changing their mind half-way near their building to build something else. Planning ahead is very useful.

I think the good trick is to make house or base in creative then change it in survival :p cuz making own house in survival mode is kinda hard especially when you encounter a biome that dont has a good resources for making house but i suggest to get more dirt to make a simple cube house where you can past the night then just destroy it when you build your dream base in that way its hard but you did it on your own :)

I personally don't like using creative, if I intend to play the game in survival mode, and it's mainly because it takes away most of the experience of exploring and obtaining materials. Other than that, it takes away some of the challenges.

For instance, maybe I'm playing Skyblocks and I want to expand my zone. I would make my own cobblestone generator (instead of using creative mode to give myself the materials). And maybe I want to create a lower floor, so I would just get a water bucket and start scaffolding (instead of going into creative and fly). Things like that actually give purpose to the map I'm playing on.
