When you are playing World of Warcraft, it's common to see some companies or individuals posing as players to send those seemingly endless gold-selling advertisements in the chat windows. But recently, Blizzard's battle with those gold-sellers has made considerable progress thanks to the assistance from PayPal, one of the most popular payment methods on the internet.

According to Curse, Blizzard filed complaints with PayPal claiming "Intellectual Properties violation" for the "sale of World of Warcraft Merchandise." Then PayPal started to send out mails to those infringing parties, threatening to cut off their ability to use PayPal if they continued to trade golds.

Here is Paypal's letter to the gold sellers:

As we know, gold selling, character trade or powerleveling can do huge harm to a MMO's in-game economy and also very annoying for regular players to see those "advertisements" in the game. This is bound to be a long battle, but at least something has been done to make the gold selling more difficult to pull off.

Very doubtful these companies will bow out without a fight.

eh its not the first time WoW, countries, or other games have tried to crack down on gold sellers. A few have even had lawsuits way prior to this. The companies selling will just find a new payment provider or some other way around it.

I think games need to stop trying to go after these gold selling companies with lawsuits and start designing their games with ways to beat them like PWE did with Forsaken World.

You can read it in our interview with FW here: http://www.gameogre.com/forums/mmo-...iew-w-jon-belliss-director-marketing-pwe.html

"Game Ogre: There are two types of in game currency, Soul Coins and Coins. What is the difference between the two, what are both types used for, and what was the factor in deciding to make two different types of currency to be used?

Jon B. Players can obtain Soul Coins from quests and killing monsters and use it to upgrade skills, crafting and buy potions while Coins can be used to buy things from other players and at certain NPCs. The big difference is that Soul Coins are bound to players, which will reduce gold farming and will keep the game fairer for all players."

I have yet to see a gold seller in FW which is rare on PWE games, if you have played PWI especially you will know what Im talking about lol.

You can't beat them with frivolous lawsuits.

They always mushroom up time and time again.
