I feel like I definitely got a late start with MMOs. I didn't start my first one until I was a senior in college. I mean I played with a friend's Runescape account once when I was younger, but that was for five minutes and doesn't really count. I have been enjoying Ryzom now for the past year though. I don't think I'll ever stop.

I think my first was when I was 6 or 7. Had a one week free trial of Toontown by Disney. Then I moved on to more... Violent MMOs... Such as Maplestory.

    1998 - Ultima Online.

    Best times in MMORPG history.

Is Ultima Online still going strong 12 years later? I don't know why it never went f2p.

Ultima Online is only going strong on player-run servers which indeed are free-to-play and legal.

The best UO shard is UO:Second Age. It is exactly like UO in 1999 with mechanics, gameplay, monsters, freedom, worlds ect.
Good population, community, and fun = )

UO never gets old, I've been playing it since 1998 lol. I recommend this server for anyone who never played UO, for those who did and for those who want to play a real sandbox without restrictions, item-based pvp and lame grinding.

How can a private run server of a pay game be legal?
