I don't know how many of you are still playing but I think, mainly in relation to the WvW scene, GW2 has well past its zenith. That is not to say its a dead game for it never will be if it has any resemblance to GW1 but it is to say the hive that it once was is beginning to decline. So I'm curious for all those who still play, or have visited recently, where you think the game will be in six months from now? Will it be quite and desolate or reinvigorated by a massive update?

Note: Don't take this as a GW2 is dying post, it is NOT dying (just losing some activity) it is really just to get discussion going on its current state and where it will be from now.

I really think Season 2 of Living World needed to start this month instead of still another 9 days or so away. This break has been much to long and I think the lower populations prove that. Living World for all it's faults at least gave everyone new stuff to do on a regular basis, it really can't start fast enough.

That said, Season 2 needs to be legit. They need to go all out, I think people are dying for new content and more importantly meaningful/lasting content. I don't even really like paid expansions and even I am like... come on guys just do a big paid expansion already, please tell me it's been in the works. If they can satisfy that hunger for content with Season 2 they'll be fine in my opinion but if not I really think Guild Wars 2 is gonna start finding itself in a hard place by next year.

One thing that I really think would help them is getting back to the skill system of GW1, let us unlock and use different weapons skills... it'd be like a whole new game. *sigh* I can only dream, it'd take a lot to do.

The paid expansion has been demanded countless times since the early days of living worlds and time over time they have said they would not be doing it sadly. My only hope is they realise its the best way and have already changed their mind and are secretly working on one, but I highly doubt that. I'm not stressed about the game anymore, I really think it had so much potential that it did not consistently live up to and to this point it has largely survived due to the lack of competition (ESO is not really strong competition). Its a great game but its getting old for many and I don't think they have been taking steps to keep it fresh.

Indeed, it's kinda been on cruise control. They've been doing more background work than anything else... which balance and stuff is all good but what's the point if you have no where to use it. Living World was the only thing keeping people coming back and even that was pretty half done at times.

I think you're completely correct in it's surviving as well as it is on it's lack of competition. ESO turned out rather blah and it's got a monthly fee to boot. Wildstar, again monthly fee and can argue it's not the best ever either. Even F2P games, they offer some quality competition but then it all goes out the window with ridiculous cash traps and restrictions that people don't want to deal with.

That's not to say I think it's a bad game. In my opinion the base games content is pretty good, I enjoyed it. It's a fun game but MMOs need to be more than a great base game and evolve over time to keep people playing, they haven't quite delivered well on that part. Which saddens me as I loved GW1 and had a lot of hope for 2.
