Picking a game and trying to master it for a few months would likely help:).

One of the best ways to get better in my opinion is by watching videos / guides about your specific class, role, or job. Whatever it may be called, watch people that are better than you, study them, and then put it to the test. You can never go wrong. It will surprise you. Also, out working your competition is always guaranteed to give you better results.

Becoming better in FPS games overall, you probably need to have played FPS games for a while, since many of them are different and becoming good at one of them doesn't mean you'll become good at another. If you have experience in playing FPS games, you might have an easier time to becoming good at a FPS game though.

The way to become better at first-person shooters is to practice whenever possible, be aware of the environment and maps, be patient sometimes, and know which weapon suits you the most.

A tip I have is to just keep playing even when things are not going so well or you keep dying. Some people will stop playing to preserve a good KD/ratio but it's against tough opponents you get better.
