If you're aware that you're dreaming and you're dreaming of a nightmare, I wonder if you could be able to change your dream to something else. It would seem odd for anyone lucid dreaming to dream of a nightmare. Maybe that person would want their dream to be like Inception where a dream is like reality. Anyway, it just seems odd for a lucid dreamer to dream of a nightmare.

I had a hallucination once when I was really sick. It was actually on thanksgiving.

I can relate to a vast extent of it. My hypothesis is perhaps that dream/nightmare is repeated at least twice. Which is why we become quite aware like as if it has occurred before, while still not being completely sure yet being able to change things to a degree because of greater awareness in one of the versions of it.

It happens but it's rare. I'll usually wake up and not remember much, wake up and make very little sense of it or wake up and want to go back to sleep to continue to live it.

Yeah this is the reason to why I hate lucid dreaming. Sometimes I know that it is a dream while I at the same time have a creepy dream where I'm getting chased. Those type of dreams usually end up with me getting killed and then waking up lol

Dying in dreams is something that does attend to wake you up. Not exactly a great experience regardless what kind of dream or nightmare it was.
