    Love Story Quest Update

Prepare to take your place at the Wise Old Man’s side as he comes out of retirement to confront an extremely unpleasant figure from his past! If you can handle the combat, the puzzles, the vicious sarcasm and the romance, you could unlock some new Construction and Magic abilities for yourself.

The quest begins at a barn north-east of Draynor Village, where a damsel in distress is looking for an adventurer to help her. Sounds like a straightforward little quest, right? Before long you’ll find yourself chipping teleport tablets, solving puzzles and entering a deadly battle where you’ll be fighting not just for your life, but for the reputation of adventurers everywhere.

It’s time to discover whether the bank guard is coming down from his tree, what the Wise Old Man is planning for the Wizards’ Tower and what Traiborn means when he talks about thingummywuts.

    Mod Ash
    RuneScape Content Developer

    Summary:
    Where to start Love Story:

Speak to Mabel at the barn north-east of Draynor Village, near the windmill.

    Requirements to start Love Story:

    Swan Song
Recipe for Disaster - Saving Sir Amik Varze
    Level 77 Magic
    Level 68 Construction
    Level 68 Smithing
    Level 67 Crafting

As mentioned in this month's Behind the Scenes, we’ve graphically updated some of the dragons in game. This includes, but is not excluded to, green, blue, red and black dragons (including baby variants), plus bronze, iron, steel and mithril dragons. Check them out if you can handle the heat!

    Players' Gallery

Time certainly flies when you’re having fun, and having fun is exactly what we’ve been doing while reviewing all of your artistic submissions since last month!

Yes, it was just one month ago that we bought the Players' Gallery back in full force, and we’ve been overwhelmed by the sheer volume and positivity of your response. So, as promised, we’re back this month with another selection of RuneScape-inspired masterpieces for you to enjoy.

There were a lot of worthy contenders, but, after a great deal of discussion, debate and Duel Arena fighting in the studio car park, we’ve selected the eight which made us smile the most. From malfunctioning crashed stars and worried wizards, to a pink mage and a dedicated butterfly catcher - we hope you like our selection too.

We also have the small matter of announcing this month's featured artist... Our most accomplished piece comes from Marikdebie and their submission, “Duel Arenaâ€. Two mighty warriors fighting it out with fire and anti-fire? It’s a sight to behold! Well done to our winner who's bagged a month of RuneScape membership absolutely free.

To check out our winner and the other brilliant entries this month, head on over to Player Gallery 9 this very moment. And, when you’ve done that, you can dive in and discuss our gallery feature, give us feedback and make suggestions to us, all on our official Gallery - Feedback & Ideas forum thread. Get stuck in!

Until next month, let’s see what other artistic wonders you can produce by sending us in your lovingly produced artwork. Just be sure to follow the guidelines on the main gallery page to make sure we can review your entries.

Price Promotion: PayBySMS with Paymo in Australia

Following the great response we've had to providing a quicker and easier PayBySMS option via Paymo in the United States, UK and Canada we are excited to announce the ability to pay for your RuneScape membership via Paymo in Australia - with a fantastic 9% discount on SMS!

A 1-month RuneScape membership with Paymo SMS is now available at the special promotional price of AUD$15.00, and is available on the following mobile networks:

    Vodafone
    Optus
    Telstra
    3
    Virgin
Find out more about members' benefits and how you can subscribe to RuneScape today - visit our members' benefits page.

    FAQ:

When will Paymo be available in my country?
Our partnership with Paymo is currently only for the United States, UK, Canada and Australia, however we are looking to expand to more territories soon. To find out when you can purchase RuneScape membership via Paymo in your territory, keep an eye on the news.

Why does membership paid by SMS cost more than by credit/debit card?
Our players are free to choose whichever payment option represents the best value and convenience for them. While credit/debit card is our recommended, best-value option, some prefer the convenience of paying by mobile phone. As the mobile operators charge a high fee for paying in this way, we pass this 'convenience cost' on.

    Lookey-Likey Costume Competition Winners

Following last weekend, you may have noticed an influx in the number of fool-pitying players with serious gnomecopter phobias, white wizards who insist on players not passing them, or even scantily-clad warriors claiming that Gielinor is, in fact, Spartaaaa! If that’s the case, then don’t adjust your monitor, you’re not going mad. It’ll be all thanks to last weekend’s Lookey-Likey Costume Competition.

Over the weekend, players dressed up as their favourite characters (real or fictional, past or present) and sent us screenshots of their costumes. Then, on Sunday evening, a parade was held at Mudskipper Point for the 1,000+ entrants to show off their creations.

The competition closed at midnight on Sunday, and so began the task of finding the three most original, entertaining and creative entries. After lots of laughing, a little crying and some very poor impressions by the judges, we give you...

    1st place:

Excluding the old janitor at the abandoned mine, this is probably everyone’s favourite hippy-and-talking-dog combo. Congrats to Mr_Kindheart for an instantly recognisable and original entry.

    2nd place:

A great idea and nice attention to detail helped secure second place for Cassel_88, who managed to capture this image of the first ever boy band on their way to Fally Road Studio.

    3rd place:

And in third place we have the appropriately named DrZoidbergMD depicting his sideways walking, fish-bone eating, woop-woop-wooping namesake from the future! I think it’s safe to say that it was the only lobster-based entry we received, which, in itself, makes it a winner to us!

    Congratulations to you all!

Choosing just three was tough. To show you how tough, we’ve posted a few of the entries we loved on our Facebook page here.

The Community Management team would also like to take a moment to say a massive thanks to everyone for taking part in the various events held over the course of the weekend – whether it was the Triumvirate Clan Wars Challenge, Jagex Clan Cup parade or the Summer Festival, we hope you enjoyed yourselves as much as we did, and we look forward to seeing you at our next bash!

If you’d like to discuss this competition, the winning entries or any of the events held at this weekend’s extravaganza, then feel free to head over to the official thread.

    Dungeoneering '1.5' Update Postponed Discussion

This is the post on the Runescape Threads that indicated that they will not be having the dungeoneering '1.5' update.

I call it 1.5 due to the reason that me, and many others, believe that this is not the dungeoneering patch 2. just a patch that seals up the bad areas of the main release of dungeoneering, along with a few more features of course :D.

    Golden Gnome Video Awards Launch

Following our announcement of the Golden Gnome Video Awards earlier in the year, we’re very excited to announce the launch of our biggest video competition to date! For those of you that aren’t clued up on the Golden Gnomes, think the Oscars, just with less floppy-haired actors, more RuneScape players and far more entertaining acceptance speeches!

There are four awards up for grabs, so, whether you love machinima, real-life film, stories or music videos, there’s a category for you. The categories are:

    * Best RuneScape Machinima Short Story
    * Best RuneScape Machinima Music Video (RSMV)
    * Best RuneScape Live Action Short Story
    * Best RuneScape Live Action Music Video

The competition launches today and we will be gladly accepting entries until Monday 16th August. We’ll then sit our panel of judges down to find their favourite two videos from each category.

Then it’s on to RuneFest, where the Golden Gnome Video Awards will be held. Special guests will present each video live on stage to the RuneFest audience, who will then vote for the best video of each category.

Now, finally, on to the prizes! Along with having their videos played before everyone at RuneFest 2010, four winners will each receive:

    * Big Tickets for a trip to Jagex
    * A goody bag packed with RuneFest goodies (including some autographed memorabilia)
    * Lifetime RuneScape membership
    * And, of course, a coveted Golden Gnome Award (yes, a Golden Gnome that you can call your own!)

All in all, the Golden Gnomes is shaping up to be the biggest and best video competition we’ve ever held, and we can’t wait to start checking out your submissions!

For more detail on the Golden Gnomes, including rules, prizes, an FAQ and a discussion, head over to the dedicated forum thread.

Before we go, the eagle-eyed among you may notice the format of the competition has changed slightly since our first announcement (namely that we don’t have an animation category any more). Don’t get us wrong, we absolutely love animation, but after seeing the amazing shorts we’ve been sent in recent months, we want to allow more than four weeks of production time for animation shorts. Don’t panic, animators! We’ll instead be holding an animation competition in its own right towards the end of the year.

    Good luck!

    Live Developer Q&A

Have you ever been jealous of the Wise Old Man’s lovely party hat? Ever wondered just why goutweed is so popular with trolls? Perhaps you’ve enjoyed battling alongside Zanik or helping Veldaban solve dwarven mysteries? Well, this week’s live Q&A session should be a treat for you.

On Friday 23nd July at 9pm (BST/forum time), we’ll be hosting a live forum questions and answer session with two of RuneScape’s developers: Mod Ash and Mod John A. They have both been behind major quests; Mod Ash's previous projects include My Arm’s Big Adventure, Swan Song and the Wise Old Man’s latest adventure, Love Story, while Mod John A is best known for his work on goblin quests like The Chosen Commander, and the continuation of the dwarf storyline with Forgiveness of a Chaos Dwarf.

So get your questions for Mod Ash and Mod John A ready, and make sure you’re on the forums when the question thread is unlocked at 9pm. Questions should be posted on this forum thread and the answers will be posted on this forum thread. Have you got your thinking cap on? Oh yes, you look lovely. Enjoy the session!

    RuneFest Gallery Competition

If there’s one thing we like, it’s RuneScape artwork and, as you’ll have seen from previous Players’ Galleries, there’s no shortage of artistic talent among the RuneScape community. At RuneFest 2010, we’ll be showing off a selection of our favourite pieces from previous Players’ Galleries in our RuneFest Gallery, along with a selection of other great artwork from the development of RuneScape.

All that awesome artwork isn’t quite enough to quench our thirst for RuneScape inspired creativity, though, so we’re also excited to announce the launch of the RuneFest Gallery Competition! The idea is simple: draw a picture, send it to us, and we’ll take a selection of our favourites along with us to show off at RuneFest. Not only that, but the best entries will also be given pride of place in the Players’ Gallery for that month.

But wait, there’s more... To keep things interesting and in-touch with RuneFest, entries to the RuneFest Gallery Competition must include all three of the following:

    * A Runefest flagstaff
    * A Golden Gnome
    * Bob the Cat (or Evil Bob)

How you incorporate these is entirely up to you; you could make them a main feature of your artwork or just a small part of a larger picture. You’ll find some examples on the RuneFest Gallery Competition forum thread.

Alongside being displayed at RuneFest, the players behind our favourite entries will also be sent a signed canvas of their work, along with a RuneFest goody bag and a lifetime RuneScape membership!

The competition is open from now until Monday 16th August. The winners will be announced and shown in a Players’ Gallery towards the end of that week. To find out more about the competition including how to enter, rules and a discussion, head on over to this forum thread.

    Good luck, everyone!

Following player feedback, we’ve decided to include the Animation category in the Golden Gnome Video Awards after all, as originally planned! So, you can now submit animated short stories/RSMVs to your heart’s content!

Triumvirate Gathering and Soul Wars Challenge

We’ve got two epic RuneScape Triumvirate events lined up for you this weekend...

First up, on Saturday 24th July, the three Triumvirate factions will be putting aside their differences for one massive celebration. The Triumvirate Gathering is an entirely player run party, which really shows what the Triumvirate is all about. Hosted by Sun Sioux, Jonesdawiz and Pro Reaver this epic party offers a great opportunity to meet the members of the Triumvirate and learn more about them.

We’ll be joining them to get up to all manner of mischief, from costume competitions to some mild Varrock-based arson, in what promises to be an entertaining day of events. Everyone is welcome; you don’t need to have signed up to the Triumvirate to come along. The party will start at 6pm BST/forum time in Varrock’s market square on world 50. You can find out more information and meet the rest of the factions in the Triumvirate Gathering forum thread.

Having a party with your Triumvirate fellows is all well and good, but pleasantries can only last so long...as will be proven by this weekend’s second event – the Soul Wars Triumvirate Challenge! Yes, the Triumvirate will come together in the spirit of having a big messy fight and compete in a series of Soul Wars matches. The challenge will be running all weekend and is the perfect opportunity to hurl abuse at other factions and gain some well deserved influence in the process. You can find more details on the Triumvirate Challenge – Soul Wars forum thread.

If you have yet to choose your faction and sign up to the Triumvirate, there’s still time to do so by heading to the Triumvirate Guide & FAQ forum thread.
