    An Adventurer is You! (allegedly...)

KoL, for those forumites who did not know, is a popular online browser MMO-RPG, known for both its fun gameplay, community, and humor (with many references to many niche things. Like "Dr. Horrible's Sing-a-long Blog", "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World", and other movies and video games that you'll be happy to see in game).

There are 6 classes to choose from, the Seal Clubbers and Turtle Tamers (muscle classes), the Sauceror and Pastamancer (mysticality), and the Disco Bandit and Accordion Thief (moxie). After completing the story line as their chosen class, players can 'ascend' and start over as any class, while keeping a chosen skill permanently. The ascension feature really adds a lot of fun and appeal to the game, as you can select out the skills you like the most, and carry them on forever.

The game is completely free. If you want to help the game out, you can donate $10 for a Mr. A, which can be used in the Mr. Store to get a few different items, including one exclusive item for each month. These can also be bought from other players in the mall, but are quite pricey, especially for a new player. They are also not necessary to enjoy the game at all, although if you plan on doing insanely fast runs, you'll probably want one or two or ten. The newest IotMs have been following a theme of being weaker versions of very old IotMs, so it shouldn't be too expensive to keep up with the 'necessary' ones for speed running.

There is an official GO guild, called 'The Ogres', that you can join at level three.
My username is 'QuinnRi' and 'ROFLHead'. :)

I play when I can as Ogore:).

Hmmm, I was wondering how it made money. The game may look simple, but it is very creative and well executed:).

And all the GO players are expected to throw toilet paper at Ogore's tent whenever possible.

And if anyone here can loan me about 3 million meat, I have collateral in the form of a Operation Patriot Shield. It'd be much appreciated.

The icons top-menu sucks and doesn't contain all the options by default. And wait, the icons menu is the default now? What was Jick thinking! :/

The left menu is set to compact because the default one takes up half my screen.

They both show the exact same things though. Except maybe the picture of the player on the left.

We need to schedule a game meet-up in the future when I reach a better level:).

Well, you don't really see other players in the game, even in the basement, the interaction is all in chat, gifts, and buffs (mostly). Spending adventures in the basement, however, has visible effects to the other players, in the form of different areas opening up and the images in the different areas emptying out of enemies.

Kingdom of Loathing makes all of its money via donations?

Yes, although the donations do get you pretty decent bonuses if you are trying to get on the high score boards. The Hardcore mode limits most of these bonuses though, so it's still mostly even there.

I am surprised that any game can be supported on donations.Seems risky to me.

While, KoL gives bonuses, so it's not completely donation-run.

Dwarf Fortress is a single-player game developed completely on donations, the lone developer makes about $2k-$6k a month from developing it, and it's his full-time job. And here's the surprising part to many people: The game is completely text, there are no graphics at all. People will generally help support the things they like...after all, if they don't donate, the game could cease to exist/continue to be developed*.

*Does not necessarily apply when games main audience is whiny children.

Very true, Quinn:). However, there are games that do not make as charityware. Rubies of Eventide is one of those.

The Review Spotlight for Kingdom of Loathing will end this weekend. Super will win unless somebody writes a better review of the game:).
