After looking at the participation and interest for this latest Showdown, it is apparent that a major format change is needed for future Showdowns. Does anybody have suggestions to increase both interest and participation?

Wow, don't know if we can handle all these suggestions at once:).

I miss the forum threads for each battle because there was more discussion.

For ideas, what about having a big pros and cons list for each game built by posts? The game with the most pros would win.

The blog is mostly under the radar for most people, I suppose that's part of the problem.

    Ok, thank you both:).

We could use forum threads again. In fact, we could do that with the Online Shooter Showdown. However, would still like to use the blog in some way for the tournament. Any suggestions for doing that?

    What about involving Facebook more?

It is possible, but we would need a system for it. Do you have a suggestion on how we can do more there?

Have a Facebook contest with predictions?

Can there be predictions for each match?

It is possible, but it could slow down matches.

What if the predictions were placed during the match before?
For example Runescape vs Aion is the current match and after it will be RH vs DN, during the RS vs Aion match you can predict the results for the RH vs DN match...
That would not slow down the matches if done right :)

I've suggested that, however one issue is it could take away attention from the match itself. Could also be confusing. It'd also still add an extra week to the tournament.

    Example:

Round 1 Predictions could be done multiple ways without delay

    Box represents week
    -----------------------------------------
    Predictions Round 1:
    Game 1 vs Game 2
    Game 3 vs Game 4
    Game 5 vs Game 6
    Game 7 vs Game 8
    -----------------------------------------
    Vote Game 1 vs Game 2 = 1
    -----------------------------------------
    Vote Game 3 vs Game 4 = 4
    -----------------------------------------
Predictions of 1 vs 4 have to start here,

    Vote Game 5 vs Game 6 = 6
    -----------------------------------------
    Vote Game 7 vs Game 8 = 8
    -----------------------------------------
Predictions of 6 vs 8 have to start here,

    Vote Game 1 vs 4 = 4
    -----------------------------------------
    Vote Game 6 vs 8 = 6
    -----------------------------------------
Predictions of 4 vs 6 - Extra Week
    -----------------------------------------
    Vote Game 4 vs 6 - Final

This could be done for each round all at one time, but the matches in the later rounds don't usually follow a set formula. Those could cause a delay.

Just as a suggestion, the Online Shooter Showdown could use its own thread for 2012.

Right now, the 2012 Shooter Showdown is hidden in the last pages of the 2011 thread. The link for the 2012 showdown off the main page goes to the results of the 2011 showdown, which is rather confusing.

The link to the page for voting in the 2012 showdown is also buried in the 2011 thread, and hard to find unless you know where to look.

So, a thread for the Online Shooter Showdown 2012 with all the necessary info and links in the first post would be really handy.

Actually, date-checking that thread, it's apparently the same thread just re-edited each year (shazam, wonders of a visible edit history). That said, a nice shiny new thread for this year wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Maybe something akin to the suvudu cage match thing? Each match they wrote up a prediction for the battle... probably a much harder carryover given that the cage matches were between literary characters and could thus be written like a story. (example)

Well, something anyway, a blog post for each match talking about both games? For subsequent rounds, also maybe a nod to whichever games the competitors have vanquished?

The problem with a different thread is starting from scratch. For example, search engines did not pickup the last MMORPG Showdown (it had it's own thread) well. it is also easier to find each Showdown if they are all in the same thread. Furthermore, these events need participation more than just new threads. However, the first post does need a major update for this year:). Once that is fixed, it should be less confusing.

Yes, we used to do something like that with MMORRPG Showdowns, Pure. Think we dropped it last year, but looks like that was a mistake. It is a lot harder, but does appear to help gather more interest:).

What about having a leaderboard where our 4 predictions earn us points through out the event?
