For anybody wondering what is holding up the new blog design for most of GameOgre, this is the main issue. Since we already have a Wordpress blog in an area, it complicates matters quite a bit. To make matters more fun, the more experts I ask the more possibilities and problems are revealed. If anybody can shed more light on this issue it would be worth some forum points:).

Actually Shugo is suggesting we keep the current blog and move Wordpress to the root:).

If you have 2 wordpresses, 1 in root and another 1 in a subdirectory called /mmoblog/, then the htaccess of the second wordpress in the root directory will override the htaccess of the first wordpress in the subdirectory /mmoblog/

I'm not exactly sure what kind of errors will occur (as I've never actually seen someone do this), but errors will happen when you do that.

So it is easier to have 1 wordpress in the root and put the content and structure of the wordpress in /mmoblog/ into the new wordpress in the root.

There is a reason why that htaccess exists in most wordpress versions. It helps to create the fake pages (in reality there is only one actual file visible (the index)) and hence also fake directories. Now you can manually alter that htaccess and still keep two different wordpresses with two different different databases, but even if you get it to work, you will have security leaks. That htaccess file is also there to prevent certain recursive searches which hackers use to find vulnerabilities in certain files, which they can then exploit.

You can make a fake subdirectory that appears as a real /mmoblog/ subdirectory with that 1 wordpress in the root. Thus you are able to keep everything you want without errors. Basically you make some extra pages and tell wordpress they are in so and so directory.

Just remember that when you move content (in other words the actual files, i'm not talking about some imaginative wordpress page) from a sub to root, the addresses will be different. Things like uploaded images may have the wrong address (and thus not appear when in fact they do exist on the server, it is only that the path needs to be changed).

Now you can easily have 2 wordpress installations on 1 site, but that's when you have them in two different subdirectories, using two different databases. Since ogreman wants the second one in the root (which a directory higher than any sub), you will get problems with that.

Also ask yourself, why would you want two installations? Its twice the work updating two installations and two databases and so on.

One installation in the root is easier. Just use that 1 installation in the root to create content for the sub. The sub is of course fake, but is made by the wordpress php script and htaccess file to appear as a genuine sub directory.

    Actually what I'm saying is:

-copy content and structure from wordpress installation of sub
    -remove wordpress installation in sub
-install a new wordpress in root
-paste content and structure in new installation in root (but this time as pages in a sub)
-create content for the new pages in the new installation (meant for the root)

(please note the order of the steps, if you install a new one in root, before you copy things from the sub, then the errors may cause you to be unable to get access to the sub, let alone the sub admin, then the only way to get things is via the ftp and phpmyadmin. I reckon the reason that you use wordpress is convenience, so the last thing you want is to get to the content via the ftp and sql database. Doing that kind of back-end stuff is relatively easy for me, but for you it may be pain in the *ss kind of work)

The devil is in the terminology!!! Remember a lot things in wordpress isn't real files!
