what is best program for making games?

    Best is very subjective and honestly one engine may not fit all, it could very well depend on the game. Popular and sound engines in the professional space are Unity, Unreal Engine 3 and Cryengine to name a few.

    UDK and CryEngine can be fun to play around with, both are free to play with but you'll have to pay if you actually make a for-profit game. Unity seems popular these days, I'm not real sure of it's model and how it compares to the other two on price.

    Are they the best though? I really don't know.

    Yeah UDK is easy to learn, Cry Engine is good but has a lot of things that you have to know, Unity on the other hand is a realy uniquie one.

    I played around with all three and i think that unity is better for small teams (Games), UDK - enthusiastists and CE3 for well equped teams that will use every setting that cryengine has to offer.

    If you plan on creating a small game for fun, try UDK or learn programming (you can learn online or in school like me). Java is good and you can realy feel good when you accomplish anything.
