    Hey all!

As summer comes around again, it looks like we'll have another go at OgreMUD. So, a question to anyone interested--what kinds of features would you like to see in the game? PvP? RPG? Social elements? Throw your suggestions out here so we can try to create something that everyone will be happy with. :D

RPG with a graphic character. PvP should be allowed.

I don't know if graphics are doable, but we can try. :)

..What definition of graphic? Pictures are almost definitely a not.
Lots of details are possible though.

Instead of graphics would livingavatars be possible to show your character?

Unfortunately, it's totally text-based. The best "graphics" we can get are ASCII art. That would be really cool though. :(

Anyway. RPG. Don't care much for pvp, but as long as I can ignore it/opt out all is well.

PvP will likely be either On, Opt-in, or Arena (only in certain areas) depending on the codebase.

Early in the game, when it is first being created, PvP will likely be off. Part of the fun in games like these are the PvP I feel, and I'd really like it to be an option. With the codebase I'm trying to get work when you create your character it will either be a PvP character or a peaceful character.

So you have to decide at the start whether or not you'll be able to participate in PvP?

Yes. And if you decide no but later want to be a PvP character you'll have to make a second character (otherwise you could do all of the quests and get awesome gear with no risk of losing it until you decided you were awesome enough to participate).

The MUD will have both PvP and PvE? Sounds good:).

Looks like it. This should be great--I'm ready to go whenever you are, quinn, but I can't guarantee my activity levels until the end of July or so. After that I'm pretty much free. :)

Reviving this thread, as we're starting work on the next iteration of the MUD. Does anybody have any cool ideas they'd like us to consider? We're open to any suggestions, so long as they're feasible and keep within the spirit of the game. :)

Is there any way to tie it into the forum?

I'm not sure. Quinn mentioned something about web-based editing, but I don't know if you can play it through a browser. I've always used MUSHclient to connect, so if we can't get a browser version, perhaps we could just post the ports and connecting instructions. Quinn might know more than me on this topic.

    Hmmm, web-based editing may help:).

No matter what codebase we use, I am pretty sure it'd be possible to somehow tie it into a web-page browser some how, it'd take a bit of research though, but I know I've seen at least a couple Java telnet clients embeded into web-pages.

Oh, July is Summer Break, it could be an awesome Summer Project!

The web-based editor is a neat feature of CoffeeMUD, if we do choose to use that codebase. We've changed a few times, I really would like the first one we tried, but it had some coding errors that made it unusable. I think they responded with how to fix them, so if I take a look at it at some point I'm hoping I can sort it out.

(quinn, that post was from last year. However, it actually applies here too--I should have plenty of time this summer)

It would be very, very nice to get it going in a browser--for a casual user, downloading and using a decent MUD telnet client might be enough of a hassle that it becomes a deterrent.
