Why did China ban video game consoles for so long?

It's ironic because the Wii, 360 and PS3 are chinese made.

  4. Not sure why, but it probably would have to do with certain standards like how culture is perceived in China. China's really about business, not so much about entertainment, though I'm sure entertainment exists in China, just not as popular. It's not really a surprise that consoles and video games are produced in China since China is the top manufacturer for almost everything.

But it does make it strange for some games now being released in China. New games that are sequels would feel weird to play without playing the prequel.

I guess China was more focused on business rather than entertainment apparently, but look at how things are now!

Me neither, although I kind of figured they had some sort of regulations on technological entertainment.

I only know that they regulate media as well as social networking sites like fb is banned there. At least they have their own sites, or maybe they have their own console. Haha

Yes, I did a quick background check on this. So consoles and console games were banned by the year 2000 in China. This was as a result of the perceived negative health and mental health impacts on the development of children, or young growing minds I assume. The ban was lifted by 2015 and consoles are no longer illegal. I at first thought this was a joke too, the more you know :D
