Sony’s PlayStation 5, along with other gaming consoles released in the fall of 2020, had a limited supply due to the pandemic. The market took advantage of the short supply and sold the much-awaited console for thousands of dollars, despite it being too pricey.

Upgraded with powerful processors, and next-generation SSD drives, the PS5 was well received by the loyal fans of the console series. Along with the formerly mentioned specifications, the PS5 allowed its fans to play the games that were released on their previous consoles, terming the move as “backward compatibility”.

The most awaited aspect of the PS5 by the fans was their lineup of games, or “launch lineup” as called in the gaming industry. Spiderman: Miles Morales, Godfall, Devil May Cry 5, Demons Soul, and Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla are some of the games off the tip of our tongues that the fans were excitedly awaiting.

Having that said, let’s get into the list of most-awaited PS5 games coming in 2022:

  1. Horizon: Forbidden West

This is set to be released in the February of 2022 and is a sequel to a well-received Horizon: Zero Dawn, which was released in 2017. For 5 years, the fans had played and replayed Zero Dawn’s open and fast-paced post-apocalyptic the United States, eagerly waiting for the sequel.

The fans would be pleased to know that as an addition to the prequel, the players would now be able to explore the ruins and mysteries underwater. New types of combat, climbing mechanics, traveling options, and tools would be introduced to the character, the huntress Ahoy.

  1. God of War: Ragnarok

The God of War series is one that the PlayStation fans have enjoyed for 5 consoles now, going back to the classic PlayStation 1. As the 9th series in the game, this is a direct sequel to the God of War 2018.

Taking place 3 years after the events of the prequel, the prophecy of Ragnarok is closer than ever. Kratos and his son, Loki, are out to find answers regarding the impending doom from the God of War Tyr. New threats in the form of Norse gods and goddesses await our protagonist duos.

  1. Elden Ring

Elden Ring is an upcoming RPG game that is made in collaboration with the famous novelist George R. R. Martin. (Game of Thrones fans must be waiting for this game). As a stand-alone game, this is the first game on the list without any prequel or planned sequel.

With limited information available, the Elder Ring takes place in a place called Lands Between and is controlled by a demigod. The game is a 3rd person RPG and includes elements that are found in other games from the same publishers, namely Bandai Namco Entertainment.

  1. Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League

Superhero games? They don’t get any better than The Arkham series. Lucky for you, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is a sequel to the fan-favorite Batman: The Arkham Knight. However, this is the first game in the series that does not feature the caped crusader as the main protagonist.

In the upcoming game, the Suicide Squad (Task Force X as they are formally called) is tasked with eliminating the Man of Steel, Superman. The Kryptonian is brainwashed by another super being, called Brainiac, who along with Superman has brainwashed the entire Justice League.

  1. Hogwarts Legacy

Are you excited to attend Hogwarts in the 1800s? So are we! The fans are finally getting an action RPG game set in the wizarding world in the 1800s. The single-player game however has no set release date, just that it would be released in 2022.

As a completely new game, with no prequel or spin-offs, fans know little about what to expect from it except what has already been discussed. The players would be able to choose their own houses, have a witch or a wizard as their protagonist, and explore Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft, and Wizardry.

  1. Gotham Knight’s

“They’re the heroes Gotham deserves, but not the ones it needs right now.” Goosebumps, right? DC Comics fans, this one is for you.

The action RPG takes place during the decline of Gotham after Batman is apparently killed in a bomb blast. It is up to Batman’s former partners namely Nightwing, Batgirl, Robin, and Red Hood to step into his shoes and save his city. The previously disbanded group must work together to make the city safe, investigate Batman’s death, and deal with the Court of Owls. Along with these, the group will also have to fend off well-trained assassins called Talons, which is becoming a hurdle for the protagonists.

  1. Dying Light 2 Stay Human

This is a direct sequel to the 2015 hit game Dying Light. The action RPG is a survival horror game that features a zombie apocalyptic open world.

Dying Light 2 is set 20 years after the events of the first game and introduces a new protagonist by the name of Aiden Caldwell. Like his predecessor, he is equipped with several parkour tricks and moves that help him get away from hordes of zombies. Old tools, such as the grappling hook and the paraglider would also be a crucial part of this game, as they help us travel the vast open world.

Wrapping up

These upcoming games are certainly the ones that fans have been waiting for the longest time, and we hope they don’t disappoint you. Keeping our fingers crossed for the outcome.
