Ogre Game Time today took place in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive for the first time. Several Ogres have the game and I used to play the original many many years ago on a LAN with co-workers. Quite a bit has changed from those old days. For starters, we would play mostly death matches and I would spend most of my time on maps in full-on sniper mode. I remember them wondering where I was right before I had them in my sights. These days, however, CO:CS is more run and gun with a team. You don’t have as much time to hunker down and just wait for a victim to walk by unsuspecting.

Also different from the old days is Steam. Steam allows for a much larger community to be more social. The created content is larger and so are the games. Today, we went into a large room with players on both sides and it was definitely a different experience. Since the Ogre Media Stream was going on as well and I had chat voices enabled, it was almost like walking into traffic in a foreign country. Some people on the team wanted to play with knives while the other side was shooting at us in the very first point. Then one player sounded like everything he said he was crying. Then one team started to vote to boot somebody out. So yeah had to get past the very first impressions and soldier through. Glad we stuck it out because the game is quite fun once you get the general gist of what is going on.

Of course, you have to shut all the noise and focus on what you need to do for your team and the objectives of the game. Be sure to take the weapons course in the game before starting and have at least one game offline with bots before getting into a chaotic multiplayer match. Trust me, you will be glad you did. Watching videos would not be a bad idea either because the more you know before starting the better.

This is just our first time streaming OGT in the game. We will be back next week with more experience under our belts and maybe more at once as well. If anybody wants to join us, they are more than welcome to. We will be playing on Wednesdays at 3 PM Central for at least an hour every week. My name is Ogreman on Steam and we also have a GameOgre Steam group.
