Gameogre recently had the chance to talk to Matt Abrams the CEO of the new Facebook game Space Empires.

Gameogre: For those who aren’t familiar with the game, tell us about Space Empires?

Matt Abrams: The Space Empires franchise has been around since 1993 and has seen 5 titles released in the series. The games are traditional 4x turn-based strategy games and are known for deep and complex gameplay.

Gameogre: What made you decide to turn Space Empires into a Social Facebook Game?

Matt Abrams: We partnered with Strategy First, as they were interested in bringing some of their popular PC game titles into the game space. We agreed that there was definitely an opportunity to bring a Space game to Facebook.

Gameogre: How will your Friends and other Facebook features integrate into Space Empires?

Matt Abrams: Players can easily invite friends to the game with an invite feature inside the game. You can assign your friends as commanders to help with your game play. Having friends playing the game enables players to send special items and gifts that help with game play. There are also special achievements for adding friends inside the game. We designed to game so players could get help from friends but limited the amount of intrusiveness.

Gameogre: What makes Space Empires stand out from other Social Facebook games?

Matt Abrams: Space Empires provides players a deeper, more complex game play than many Facebook games. There is something for every type of gamer, as we have a leader board with five different metrics. We tried to bridge the gap between traditional and social gamers by providing many different ways to play the game. At the same time, players aren’t required to have a lot of Facebook friends that play the game to enjoy it .

Gameogre: Space Empires is currently free to play, will you offer any sort of micro transactions for the game now or in the future?

Matt Abrams: Yes, we currently allow players to purchase Galactic Credits to enhance game play.

Gameogre: Space Empires is currently in BETA, do you have an expected date for it to be fully released and can players expect any upgrades or new content before it is fully released?

We are putting the final touches on our attacking system, which is a major component of the game. Once we release that we will have a better idea about an expected full release.
