A Swedish company named Quixel has made an impressive new addition to CryEngine 3 toolset. Their Megascan tool enables artists to scan, and import real world textures to the engine with great results. Quixel describes Megascans as "a new breed of material library, finally bringing full real-world surface scans to the art community. Browse, preview and download 1000+ materials scanned with Quixel’s groundbreaking HDR surface capture technology and experience real diffuse, specular, normal, translucency, AO and much more."

Quixel released a small teaser demonstrating the Megascans tool in action, the video was made in 10 days by a single artist.

    Here is the teaser:

Cryengine is an amazing engine, great visuals and effects. Unreal Engine ruled the game last gen, will be interesting to see with a fresh slate if Cryengine can really break out.

Indeed, it's amazing the leaps being made. It's kinda frustrating when people say "it's not gonna get much better"... o it will, it will. They got the base down and now with more power they will start being able to add more and more little details, it's gonna be awesome.
