    What would you recommend?

    I don't know much about the newer games ... but for old games:

    Ultima series ... nice plot line ... great theme on virtues ...
    Diablo 2 was great ... simple ... yet it really drew you in ...
    Final Fantasy 7 ... need I say more?

    i upvote that, it actually have a very great story and i could actually event suggest dragon age all games ( since they are sequels with alot of nice choices ;D) also Kingdom hearts people obvs

    I think World of Warcraft set the standard for MMORPGs. You have characters like blood elves, rivaled factions, and many other things. Especially at the time when the game was still new, there weren't many games you could compare to World of Warcraft.
